Erie Insurance - Insurance Denying Claim, Door Hit in Parking Lot, Need Help
A couple weeks back I was moving into my new apartment complex, and had the door on my vehicle cracked open while I went inside to move what I was carrying before coming back out. While inside my apartment building, I received a call from the office telling me someone had hit my car. I went down to the parking lot and a man was waiting next to his truck for me. He claimed the wind had blown my door open while he was backing into the space, and that he had looked at his camera and it was closed and then he started backing up and heard it crack. The door is off its hinge, and the corner is folded over... it still shuts but it will most likely need a new door. He profusely apologized and gave me all his insurance info and contact information. His agent calls back after I file the claim (Erie), and tells me that they will not be covering the claim and that my insurance would be responsible because the wind blew it open and "there's no way he could have looked at all his mirrors 100% of the time, and its you're fault for leaving the door cracked, allowing it to blow open into his path". Since sentry mode was off ( I have a model 3), and my apartment's surveillance camera was down at the time, there is no way to show if the door was already open or had blown open. My insurance deductible is $1,000 and I don't have that at all right now. Also if I choose to do that, I'll spike my insurance for the next 2 yrs of my lease. Do I go to a lawyer?? I don't even know if I can afford one. I have no clue what to do, and I feel like my only option is to wait 2 years and hopefully fix it out of pocket before my lease ends.... but then I would be out 2/3k for a new door. Someone help me out here....what do I do?

Mapfre Insurance - How long should it take for appraiser to asses damage?
Hello. I have mapfre insurance. I had a minor accident 2 weeks ago and submitted a claim on March 27th. They had me take pics of the damage(front bumper damage) I got my estimate from their electronic appraisal. I dropped off the car at an in network shop on Sunday, March 31st.
That Monday the shop submitted a supplemental appraisal to have someone to check the car to approve more funds to get the car fixed from insurance. Since then there has not been an appraiser to come check my car at the shop. It’s been a week and it’s beginning to get frustrating. I was told many different stories on when an appraiser will come up until on Thursday an appraiser told me there was an issue in their system that prevented them from assigning an appraiser. I was told this past Friday that one has been assigned and will call the shop to schedule an appointment.
The damage is minimal and the shop can fix the car in 2 days but can’t proceed without insurance. What are my options to make sure they have someone come on Monday? I’ve been without a car for a week and it’s been difficult to get around. Would love some advice on this issue!
Sun Life - Sunlife and LTD and return to work
Been on Sunlife LTD now for 6 months after surgery and resulting (ongoing) nerve pain requiring medication with side effects impacting ability to focus/concentrate seriously impacting my job. My doctor thinks I need more time for the nerve pain to settle but Sunlife had said it is time to start a rehab program (physio) which my Doctor sees as having no benefit at this time. Sunlife insists and says lack of compliance by me, even if under the guidance of my doctor, can jeopardize my ongoing benefits. They had sent the Doctor a note with their proposed plan and gave him a whole 2 weeks to agree or justify why not. He won’t be responding as he is off for spring break and has a huge patient load. If no response from him, Sunlife said they simply move forward. I am not sure how to proceed - must I follow their proposed (e.g. get this claim closed asap) plan without any consultation from my doctor or can my doctor propose a plan? And can they simply ignore my doctors perspective and/or simply move ahead if no response?
GEICO - Can GEICO add driver to my policy without permission??
So I recently opened a new policy with GEICO for my car. A few days after opening the policy(march 2025), they added a driver without contacting me or giving me any notification. That alone increased my premium $450. The driver that was added is my GF that doesn’t live in my household or is licensed to drive(never got a DL). They claim I added her in a quote but i didn’t quote with them since ~Nov-Dec 2024(she visited during this time and left in Jan)I know you’re supposed to include any person in the household in a policy due to liability but I’m currently living alone. GEICO also claimed that they use “DMV records” to add drivers to policy on behalf of the customers if we didn’t do it already. That couldn’t be the case since my GF had no affiliation with the DMV in my state. Any advice on this matter would be appreciated
Tesla Insurance - Car insurance claim - Shop not providing estimate/quote for aftermarket items until repair is completed?
I am going through Tesla insurance for my Model Y. I had a few aftermarket parts and vinyl wrap that needs to be replaced as part of the repair.
The quote/check for the repair does not include just three items and the shop is saying that they will submit a separate claim/payment for that item after everything else is repaired and done.
Additionally, they are saying that after all of that, I need to go get a quote for the wrap and submit that separately on my own to see if Tesla will reimburse me for it.
Anyone have any insight on this? At this point, it has taken me several months to even get a reply back from the shop, I almost want to just ask for a check and get it done elsewhere or figure it out on my own. The only issue is the check was sent to the shop as a two person check, so I almost feel like I will be stuck with this shop.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - ACA
Do agents typically approach you?
I was approached by a woman with a tablet telling me about insurance plans and claiming she was from ACA.
She asked me if I wanted to apply to see if I were eligible and told me that I could cancel at any tome should I enroll in it.
Turns out I was eligible for a basic plan that I pay 0 dollars for.
So I am a bit skeptical about the whole thing. I have a screenshot about a confirmation on an onboard app. It has a Premier Secure number to cancel.
I’m 90% my dumbass got scammed or something.
I’ve done an enrollment with a Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance in a similar manner but I canceled that one because the mandatory doctor was an hour away.
Porsche - Need help in understanding.
I purchased a brand-new 2023 Porsche Macan S for $82,000. After taxes, the total came to $86,000. I also purchased all available extended warranties and protection plans through Porsche, covering the engine, transmission, wheel/tire protection, paint/weather discoloration, etc., bringing the total investment to approximately $102,000.
As of 2025, the car has only 14,000 miles, mostly from commuting to and from work. The vehicle was in excellent condition with no engine damage.
Recently, I was involved in a collision accident, and the fault was determined to be entirely on the other party. Unfortunately, my insurance company has declared the car a total loss because the repair cost is around $40,000, and the vehicle would receive a salvage title, thereby reducing its market value significantly. My insurer has offered me $72,000 as the settlement.
This situation leaves me $30,000 short of what I initially paid, even without factoring in the warranty and extras.
🟦 1. Can I still negotiate with the insurance company after they totaled my car?
🟦 2. Should I buy back the totaled car and fix it?
🟦 3. I had 5-year warranties — if the car is totaled after 2 years, will I get refunded for the remaining 3 years?
Thank you to anyone who sees this message and replies back.
Progressive - Completely confused as to how my car isn’t totaled
Let me preface this by saying I might totally be in the wrong here.
I hit a deer a few weeks ago, messed my car up pretty bad. It’s a 2017 Mercedes C300. The hood, bumper, grill, and right headlight assembly need to be replaced. Right fender can probably just be repaired. Regardless, estimate of the damages came out to about $7,700. I was SURE this would total the car, as I knew that my car was only worth $9-$10k. I had been trying to sell/trade it for the past year. It has 110,052 miles on it, cosmetic damages, coolant leak in the heater core, needs a new purge valve, etc. I have had four different dealerships tell me that it’s worth no more than $10k, and two offered me $5k to buy outright, other two offered $7,600 which is what carmax values it at. MERCEDES told me the car was not worth putting $8k worth of damage into and would give me $5k for it.
Progressive tried to tell me it was worth $16,475. This number is based on what dealerships SELL my car for on average. My question is… if the car were to be totaled, they would NOT give me $16k for it, because that’s not what it’s worth. So how can they value the car at that price? It’s also a hypothetical number with dealership markups. They never sent anyone out to look at my car, they never asked about previous damage, NOTHING. The guy kept blowing me off and stated that they won’t run the value unless it’s totaled and flagged and we had not gotten to that point.
Is this even legal?? I’m supposed to have the estimator call me tomorrow, but as far as I’m concerned, all he did was plug my vin into Mitchell Connect and say that it would sell for this so that’s what it’s worth. Should I fight harder? Everyone I’ve spoken to has told me to.
Geico - Diminished Value Offer from Geico
On June 10th I was rear ended while stopped at a red light by a woman who was texting. She got out and immediately admitted fault and the incident was caught on my dashcam. Now, two months and ~$20k worth of repairs later, I have my car back. I drive a 2024 Kia Sportage, roughly 18.5k miles on it, top of the line trim package. Prior to the accident the car was in perfect condition. Geico (her insurance provider) has offered me $5k in diminished value. Is this worth even bothering with negotiation, or does the little guy always lose?
