State Farm - Go High or Go Low?
I have been a State Farm customer for almost 40 years. I recently was in my first serious automobile accident where the repair costs are around $25,000. State Farm has been hellish to work with and dragged even just the start of repairs out two months. It’s not over yet, but it’s pretty clear I’m gonna end up having to pay a pretty good chunk of that out-of-pocket.
The body shop tells me that most namebrand insurance companies are difficult to work with. He suggested one of the high-end brands like Chubb or Pure.
The more I think about it it seems like I could go with a low rate company and for that once every 25 year incident just pay for the repairs myself. As long as I have injuries and liability covered, it feels like I would come out even.
My question is this. Should I go with a different company that is more white glove service like Chubb? Or should I find some cut rate company where I at least know up front I’m going to have to pay out-of-pocket for an repairs like this but save money and headache in the long run? Or should I just stay in the middle with SF?
FYI, I do have good umbrella coverage too.
GEICO - Insurance Lapse
I’m in New York State, I had GEICO and I made a payment on the due date(yesterday) but noticed they didn’t want the full payment amount that I normally pay but a smaller payment(I assumed for a new car that I added on). Long story short, I gave them a call and they cancelled my policy because they said they sent a letter regarding a rate change, which I haven’t received. I live in a rural area and we have to physically pick up the mail from the post office, it looks like the mail was returned to the GEICO.
They put in request to underwriting to see if they’ll reinstate the policy. What are the chances they do? Do they normally reinstate policies? Policy lapsed for only 1 day.
Bell Subrogation Services - Bell recovery services
Hey all!
Back in 09/03/2024 I had gotten into a car crash without insurance. I am a 20yo Corrections officer, and when the crash happened I hadn’t got my first check yet, so I didn’t have any money to get insurance then. The car in front of me ( a businesses car) slammed on their brakes going 50, and my bald tires slid my small civic into their bumper. We both got out, and inspected the damage, there was no dents, and barely a scratch on the other guys bumper. I told him I didn’t have insurance, and he said, it looks like nothing happened so he should be fine, but because of the crash detection he’d have to tell his boss about it. Ever since I haven’t gotten a single piece of mail, Email, etc, about the accident.
Today I opened a piece of mail, that stated bell subrogation services were trying to get me to pay 2989$ for an accident that 100% didn’t cost that much to repair. What should I do? I know nothing about stuff like this and have well under 2989 in assets and cash on hand.
Geico - Did I just screw myself?
Hello! First time posting in this sub, I think this type of post is allowed. Long story short, I purchased an auto policy through Geico in mid-July for a car I am being gifted. I realized the next day that I wasn't going to be able to take ownership for 3-4 weeks and ended up calling to cancel the policy.
I called back today to restart the policy and they are quoting me $400+ more for exactly the same policy. Did I completely screw myself here? I told the agent I was going to shop around, which I am happy to do, but... what a pain. Is there a strategy I can use to have Geico honor the original quote?
Thank you in advance!!
Odie - ManyPets / Odie merger - premium went up $1420!
I've known for a while that ManyPets was merging with Odie but I (wrongly) assumed that the policies would be largely the same. Odie emailed me yesterday with the new policy and billing summary and my jaw hit the floor.
My plan on ManyPets was an annual deductible of $750 and unlimited coverage with 10% co-insurance. The annual premium was $377.04.
According to the renewal notice with Odie, there is an annual max payout limit of $20k, deductible of $250 and 10% co-insurance (so an inferior plan) and the annual premium is **$1799.42?!** There is also a billing statement for a Wellness Plan, which I never had on ManyPets.
I emailed customer support immediately on Friday and they haven't gotten back. My credit card will be billed on Monday. I'm going to call them first thing Monday morning but I'm pretty concerned.
Others who were on ManyPets - are you sticking with Odie? People who have had Odie and used them for claims, what has been your experience? I'm certainly not willing to pay $1800. I have a 7 year old pug and he's healthy/never had any pre-existing issues. But I'm concerned that due to his age, I'll have a hard time getting a decent premium on a new plan.
Anthem - Missed employers open enrollment
I am a 33y/o female in NYC and found out today that my enrollment into medical insurance through my employer didn’t save. i have not been covered for the last 3 months and im worried something could happen where i need it. I just looked at quotes for individual coverage and at my income level of $140k the lowest cost plan was $700 per month. I’m getting married in August and since that’s a qualifying life event i’m wondering if i have any options other than get legally married early or pay the $700. i’ve reached out to HR for other enrollment related things in the past and they wouldn’t budge in the slightest so don’t expect any workarounds with my companies insurance which is Anthem. Advice desperately needed :(
Allstate - Allstate Charge, Help
Hi,
I cancelled my policy with Allstate on July 29th after paying my July 1st bill with my next bill date being August 1st. Cancelled my renters and auto in one swoop through the online chat, though next day I realized they hadn't cancelled my auto. Only my renters, I contacted them again. They backlogged the effective date for the auto to the 29th as the renters was. I already thought they were trying to get an extra payment out of me there, hoping that I wouldn't catch it... The reps on chat assured me that I wouldn't owe my next payment on the 1st since I cancelled my policy previous to the payment date.
The next day I checked to ensure the auto cancellation went through and it did show effective so I went ahead and turned off auto-pay.
Next day there is a charge on my account for $302. Today I had the time to call so I called Allstate. First rep asked me some questions and then put me on hold for 40 minutes, only for another rep to answer. Second rep told me that my bill has been sent to collections and gave me the number to call. I called collections and they haven't received anything due for me.... I called Allstate again..
Last rep told me that the extra $302 was due to the cancellation of auto-pay on my already cancelled policy.. Also stating that technically my due date without auto-pay would've been on the 18th of each month, which she said if i hasn't have turned off auto-pay they would've owed me money.
This is genuinely not making any sense to me and feels like a gigantic scam. None of the reps at Allstate are willing to waive my balance due to an incorrect charge. Do I just wait for the bill to hit collections and then dispute it? What can I do about this? I'm also infuriated that I spent in total two hours on the phone for this.. lots of misinformation all around and no resolution.
Plymouth Rock - Plymouth Rock App tracking me without my consent
Just switched to an android from iphone and when my battery gets low to 15 percent, I get a notification from the Plymouth Rock App that "Trip recording is suspended." It also says low battery is preventing Plymouth Rock from recording trips, this is genuinely scary as I never set up anything with them to record my trips. I gave them a call and they said that my account doesn't have it set up so they're not sure why. Anyone have an idea why it would say that?
HealthyPaws - Switching from HealthyPaws?
My 2-year-old husky/rottie mix, Raymond, is insured through HealthyPaws. They have been wonderful- it's $57/month for 90% reimbursement with a $250 deductible. As I'm sure you can guess from his breed, he has had several expensive accidents, especially when he was little. HealthyPaws has covered all of them and saved me thousands. There's also no annual limit.
My boyfriend and I live together now, and we want to insure his 8-year-old greyhound/lab mix, Tucker. He's healthy and has no pre-existing conditions. I called HealthyPaws to add him, but they said the only option is $69/month for 50% reimbursement with a $1000 deductible. While looking into other options, I found tons of reviews saying that HealthyPaws significantly increases premiums each year. Now, I'm considering moving Ray too and putting both dogs on a new plan.
Despite competitive pricing, it looks like Lemonade is bad about premium hikes too. Trupanion would triple Ray's premium and make Tucker's absolutely ridiculous. Nationwide only offered Tucker a dirt cheap plan that doesn't cover illness. PetsBest gave me a great quote for both dogs, but has mixed reviews about coverage and price hikes.
I'd appreciate any recommendations/advice. I'm looking for a company that is able to do 90% reimbursement and a lower deductible for Tucker despite his age, doesn't increase premiums much each year, has no annual limit (or a very high one), and doesn't deny claims for stupid reasons. Add-on riders for routine wellness are a plus as long as the limits are reasonable- we spend $400+ each on Simparica Trio each year, and their annual exams are pricey.
Aflac - Aflac Claims
I have every option that was offered with Aflac through my job.
What type of things can you claim? I feel like they are so vague on this. I’m trying to get money back for things if I am able. I haven’t had any SERIOUS hospital stays or such. But I know you can claim yearly for annual physical, also for pap smear under cancer screening to get money back.
Not trying to scam or anything but it seems that unless I am dying or stay in the hospital then these policies don’t pay anything.
Anyone know the ins and outs? Because at this point I’m just paying a lot to have a policy.
