Geico - Can I switch car insurance companies after a month?
I’m buying a car tomorrow and don’t have auto insurance. The only company that is offering the option for next day insurance in my state is Geico. I’ve heard it’s horrible and would like to shop around more but need insurance to take the car off the lot tomorrow (obviously).
Can I pay one month for Geico and then cancel the policy once I find something better? Planning to work with a broker.
Thanks for the advice. I haven’t owned a car in 10 years (lived in a walking city) so am trying to figure this all out.
Trupanion - Trupanion denied my claim and is now labeling gastritis as a pre-existing condition that they will not cover going forward. What can I do?
I’m a new cat dad — I adopted a pair of cats two weeks ago, completely unaware that they had any medical issues.
One of the cats turned out to have a fungal ear infection, a respiratory infection, and digestive issues that included diarrhea. I took them to the vet right away to get checked out. Things started to improve, but I still brought him back to the vet because of the persistent diarrhea. We made some dietary changes, and it’s getting much better, but I decided to submit a claim anyway.
Unbeknownst to me, Trupanion has a 30-day waiting period. I signed up through my State Farm agent and didn’t really read the paperwork since it was highly recommended to me.
Now, Trupanion is claiming that the cat has a pre-existing condition of gastroenteritis and that they will not cover anything related to it moving forward. I called them, frustrated, because — from what I understand — gastroenteritis is a very broad term, kind of like saying someone has an “upset stomach.” You can have an upset stomach from cancer, or from bad sushi, and those are two completely different issues.
I talked to a Trupanion rep for about 20 minutes trying to understand the situation, but they basically told me my only option is to appeal and try to get the diagnosis changed. That’s really it.
They did mention that if, in the future, a vet determines the cause of the gastroenteritis is due to a separate or unrelated condition, it might be covered — but at this point, it seems like the burden is entirely on me to prove that.
So now I’m left wondering: what’s the point of having pet insurance? I understand it’s helpful for big things, but if he ever starts vomiting blood or needs hospitalization, and they trace it back to a condition labeled as “gastritis,” will they even cover it? The rep said maybe, but I’m honestly not convinced.
Wilber Insurance Recovery - Wilber (Insurance Recovery) Asking for More Money Than I Owe – Anyone Faced This in Texas?
Progressive - Car insurance included salvage title cars in comps, won't negotiate
So our car was stolen and our insurance (Progressive) gave us their vehicle valuation report. The base value is 33k and they deducted almost 12k since it's salvaged title (stolen recovery) so it ends up being almost 21k. My problem is that 3 out of the 5 comps in the report were also salvage title! So I sent them a letter saying based off of their formula they should realistically be giving me the average price of those 3 salvaged vehicles (ends up being 31k after adjustments) these are cars that are selling or have sold in my area. Instead they're double dipping using salvaged cars for comps and deducting the title history deduction on top of that. Now, they give me a call back saying they're firm on their number they can't move around numbers bla bla bla..
I don't get it? , realistically I wasn't expecting 31k I wanted to negotiate and meet somewhere in the middle and now they're telling me they're done.. to invoke my appraisal clause. Like are they serious? Based off of reddit I thought insurances went up a little and tried to negotiate somewhat. So am I stuck now? Should be worth hiring an appraiser right? Anyone go through a similar experience or have any advice?
Wilber - Wilber (Insurance Recovery) Asking for More Money Than I Owe – Anyone Faced This in Texas?
Hey everyone,
I got a call recently from a company called Wilber, saying I owe them money for an insurance-related matter. But the amount they’re asking for is way more than what I actually owe. This happened in Texas, and it caught me off guard.
I tried asking for a breakdown of the charges, but it still doesn’t add up. It feels shady, and now I’m just wondering—has anyone else in Texas dealt with something similar from Wilber?
Did you resolve it? Did they back off or escalate it? Just trying to figure out if I’m being taken advantage of or if this is some standard (but aggressive) practice. Any advice or shared experience would really help.
Thanks in advance!
State Farm - Can’t get my State Farm adjuster to call me back
We have a storm damage claim in since June 20th, adjuster came out July 2nd, he sent an estimate and a payment (which we have not yet accepted) on the 3rd. We’ve been trying to get in touch with him since the 7th to no avail (voicemail says he’ll call back within one business day).
What’s my next move?
Progressive - Progressive | Snapshot
Received my 6-month renewal notice for Progressive and suprise () a 20% increase.
Problem is I use Snapshot, have 4/5 average, which I thought yields an additional discount, not an increase.
I called. Progressive claims rates go up/down all the time and can not give me specific reason for this increase. My 4/5 average Snapshot is already included in new rate.
Is this practice common, follow *their* Snapshot rules - get increase ??
Progressive - Commercial auto insurance CA
Been with progressive commercial since start of business, 2 years, the called me last month and said the are dropping me as they don't cover my type of business in CA anymore.
I pay 50k every 6 months, 10 vans, 12 drivers
No claims made (that were our fault), I'd like to not pay 100k a year if possible, 1m/2m w/5m Umbrella
Any other company suggestions? Thanks in advance!
USAA - Can anyone help an Army Combat Veteran who needs auto insurance?
I was a USAA member for 18 years, 15 of which with a good driving record.
For a 11 of those years I served in the US Army, with 10 combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. I was awarded the Bronze Star, among other honors. I was discharged honorably.
After the military about three years ago I was going through traumatic personal issues and often drove distracted. During a 12 month period I was in a series of low impact auto accidents. Two of them were just backing into somebody’s fender in a parking lot.
However 6 months after the last accident the computer at USAA determined I was too high risk and without providing any kind of appeal process sent me an automated letter informing me they would no longer cover me. I called and I was informed that there was no appeal process for the computers decision.
The computer didn’t request my military record, nor consider my driving record for 15 years prior to that, and the humans at USAA would only listen to a computer that doesn’t understand nor care about context or give credit for military service. I was informed that there was no human being capable of overriding the computer’s decision at any level of the company.
I’ve tried every major insurance company, and all of the minor ones that I can find, and they all use the same computer algorithm.
I was never impaired.
I didn’t hurt anybody.
I’m not required to be on an SR 22.
I have a valid drivers license.
.. and I cannot get auto insurance.
Recently, I did find two places that would insure me,
.. for $2000 a month..
I have been unable to work for close to a year.
Soon, I will lose my house.
Does anybody know of any insurance company where human beings are still allowed to make their own determination?
Is there any way to get commercial auto insurance through an LLC that doesn’t require my driving record?
Is there any way to challenge my driving record, or have it improved?
Or anything that I can do to convince the computer, or any person I could talk to at the state level or in the private sector that might be able to help me?
I’ve tried everything I can think of.
I don’t know where else to go.
Thank you in advance 🙏🏻
USAA - USAA Paid Less Than The Estimate That They Requested
Hey y’all, my truck got hit in the parking lot of my work a couple of weeks ago and there was some damage near the drivers rear wheel. The lady who hit me left a note with her information so I submitted a claim through her insurance company. They asked me to get an estimate from one of three shops and then after they would pay. I requested to cash out as I’m planning on painting my truck myself within the next month or two. The shop returns with an estimate of about $2,300. After about a week I receive payment of $1,700… I asked why there was that high of a discrepancy and the adjuster said:
“The cost difference between the estimates is due to the first one being written without regard for insurance rates. We can only pay out on the official insurance estimate.”
My question is, why did they have me go get an estimate in the first place. I had to take a half an hour’s drive each way just to get to the shop. Not to mention the time I spent there waiting to be helped. I’m just frustrated because it seems like that was an active waste of my time. If they already had their own “official insurance estimate”, why did they have me go drive 2-3 towns over to get a meaningless one from a shop!
