Trupanion - Trupanion looks back at Vet records…
Trupanion looks back at Vet records from when you first got the dog to now. If your dog ever had a cough or a runny nose, then they don’t cover anything in the future that may have a cough or runny nose as a symptom. If your dog ever sprained or bruised their leg, then forget being covered if they rupture or break a bone or ligament. If your dog has ever had no appetite or been on a prescription diet, then any symptom that may include that is not covered. The list of what they want cover based on a dog that’s 10 years old from a time when she was three months old is ridiculous. They nitpick over your records to ensure that you get the least amount of claims possible.
Pets Best - Poor first impression
After getting my puppy, he had some tummy troubles. Pets Best denied all related claims. Because he contracted this illness during the 14 day waiting period it was considered an existing condition. Doesn't matter that my policy effected date was the day I received him. I really regret going with Pets Best.
ASPCA - Disappointing claim service
They rejected a claim because they hadn't received past vet records, though we had sent them. I re-sent and they said they had received would review and expedite claim. That was 7 weeks ago, after I was told that now they did have the records. They just keep saying the same thing and do nothing. Very disappointing.
Trupanion Canada - My vet recommended that my dog had…
My vet recommended that my dog had periodontal disease and required his tooth pulled. This was noted in August 2024. We did not get him in to the vet until January 2025. Trupanion denied the claim as they said the procedures wasn't done within 3 months of the of the diagnosis. This is an expensive procedure and as such we were unable to afford the cleaning/procedure at that time. Dealing with Trupanion in the past I am always nervous that they will cover anything so can't rely on insurance. Overall I think Trupanion is the biggest rip off they start at a reasonable rate and then hike up the fees while never actually covering expenses.
Embrace - NOT worth your money.
I am awarding Embrace this low review because of the extremely dissatisfying experience I had with my first and only claim in several faithful years of paying $115 a month for my two dogs and cat. Long story short, our cat began vomiting bile several times a day for 48 hours and was not touching food or water and was acting lethargic. We had adopted her in March 2024 from an Animal Rescue center who had picked her up as a stray, gave her all her necessary vaccines and deemed her perfectly normal and healthy for adoption. She was not due to be seen for an exam until March 2025 for vaccine updates, so in the past 9 months we had no reason to take her in until now for an emergency visit. After several tests and X rays, the vet found no foreign objects inside her, and gave her rehydration treatment, antibiotics, pain medicine and some appetite enhancer to help her get back to normal. The total sum was nearly $1100. She was better within a couple days. I was under the impression that based on what Embrace advertises as what would be covered, that a freak illness that the cat suffered would at least be covered to some degree. Apparently, within the vague and long-winded fine print our faithful claims adjuster did her due diligence to the company to ensure we got coverage for as little as possible (0$), and decided that since our cat had not had a vet exam (apparently the rescue center doesn’t count) that this illness would not be covered because she was technically still in a “waiting period.” I personally cannot fathom why USAA recommends this business as an insurance company when it will reward a paying customer of several years with technicalities and red tape over a measly $1100. I immediately cancelled my policy, because frankly it makes more sense to save that money every month so I have it for any future emergency visit rather than pay this scam of a company $115 a month to just bury me in “legalese” again in the future. If you are currently using this insurance company or plan to, think before you buy. And at a minimum insist on speaking to a HUMAN BEING on the phone to explain to you how to ensure your pets are actually covered and what hidden technicalities are buried in the fine print, because they will surely Embrace your membership fee, but as soon as you ask for a tiny bit of coverage for an actual emergency visit they become stingy and unhelpful.
ASPCA - Dental cleaning is supposed to be…
Dental cleaning is supposed to be covered with our plan up to $100. Our dog usually gets dental cleaning every 3 years because that's when medically necessary as deemed by our vet. He did have to get an extraction due to chewing on something he was supposed to have, causing a fracture. While he was under anesthesia, they suggested to do the dental cleaning even though the tartar wasn't too bad. It saved us from putting him under anesthesia again (and he's older) later this year to undergo the cleaning. They wouldn't cover the cleaning becuase they said there was tartar mentioned in his notes 6 months ago. They only cover cleaning when there's nothing wrong with the teeth - no one will put their dog under anesthesia for a dental cleaning if there is nothing to clean. That is the only way they will cover it. Trying to get away with whatever they can to not cover something that clearly should be covered. Should be ashamed of themselves.
Trupanion - English Translation:Not trustful
Trupanion is a big disappointment. I paid $130 for my dog insurance for 2 years. When my dog had a biopsy in December, they only covered 60%, and then immediately raised the insurance to $170. I have now canceled and will deposit $100 into an account each month to cover possible exams or surgeries. I can only recommend staying away from Trupanion.
Embrace - Can't recommend
i had a really bad experience with them. they refused to cover my cat's procedure and treatment because of pre-existing conditions. I spent hours on phone with them, and provided signed documents by multiple veterinaries to contest the pre-existing condition that embrace invented. They finally changed their mind. Just for them to raise their prices by 50% the next year.
Fetch Canada - Rate increases more and more
I have not had any issues with a claim being denied, or a delay in reimbursement. My biggest issue with Fetch is how much my monthly rate has increased over 5 years. From when I first enrolled to the new annual premium I've just received, I am paying 78 dollars a month more and $1000 more annually. It's becoming unsustainable and I feel that I am penalized for making any claims because you get a 10% penalty for reimbursement over $250.
Embrace - Very dissatisfied with the claims…
I’m extremely disappointed with the claims process. It took far too long to resolve in my opinion. They don’t tell you that the first claim can take a couple months because they don’t include any weekends or holidays in the amount of time they say they need for reviewing. The lack of communication was unacceptable. I had to take it upon myself to figure out that they needed additional information because no one reached out to inform me. There was no clear guidance, no follow-up, and no sense of urgency from their team.
It felt like they didn’t care about my time or the stress the delay caused. A simple call or email would have resolved things much sooner. This experience has been frustrating, and I expected better service. I hope they improve their communication and efficiency for future customers.
I am very satisfied with each customer service rep that I have encountered as they were polite and kind with each call I made.
