Geico - Why am I paying almost double what my sister is paying car insurance ??
I am a 33yo f and my sister is 30yo f. We both have geico, same coverages, haven’t been in an accident or have gotten any tickets in 5+ years. We both have newish cars. Hers is a 2024 Mazda and mine is a 2025 Nissan. We live together at the same address. Why the hell is her car insurance almost half the cost of mine?! I am so annoyed about it! Lol
Odie Pet Insurance - Odie Pet Insurance
I hope this info helps and would love any additional details anyone else may have… As I assume there are a multitude of others that are in the exact same (sinking) boat.
Had ManyPets for 2 years. Used it and Loved it. Premium went up 223% this year when they announced the switch to Odie. Shortly after I sent an email disputing that increase, I got an email from both ManyPets and Odie stating that they had found a discrepancy and revised my premium amount to a much lower rate. THEN, days after, Odie went ahead and charged the Amex I had in file with ManyPets without authorization AND it was for an amount greater than they had originally stated. I have emailed them a dozen times over the last 2 to 3 weeks, tried to reach them on chat through the portal, and I've been calling every day. I've only been able to find two numbers that are intended for customer care: (877) 327-0471 & (877) 427-0471 I get nowhere with either one. Continuous on old music on one, dead air on the other. I contacted American Express, as I had my auto-payment with ManyPets set up with them (in hindsight, that was very smart). I created a dispute and they removed the AmEx card for future payments, but have started that I need to get someone on the phone or an answer via email proving they understand I wish to cancel. It sounds as though unless I can do that, I may be out that initial charge that hit on 1/3. The Amex representative did help me track down a third number he found listed on the Internet somewhere: (212) 645-2884. This is a New York number and is eventually sent to Voicemail for someone named Miles Darson. I've now called this number and left a message two days in a row. Still have no reply.
I will say, I looked up the Odie office location on a map and it's very near the area in California where all the raging fires are going on. I can't help but wonder if that has something to do with this, but also can't imagine they wouldn't post information for all their clients or answer the phone and reply to emails. It appears as though they just took everybody's money and ran ...
Happy that I was only charged once and was able to cancel future payments through AMEX, but even just on principle… I want my money back from the initial charge. Extremely infuriating.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - Help! What are my options?
Hi all, thanks in advance for reading this. My situation is this: I’ve started a new job that had 3 options for health insurance. All were blue cross blue shield. 1 option was no hsa but in and out of network coverage. 2 options had hsa’s but one had in and out of network coverage and the other didn’t. I figured I’d get the was with a hsa and no out of network coverage. BCBS is very common where I live and figured no issues.
Well, my son had to have surgery but before hand, we gave our new insurance to all the doctors and they said they accepted it with no problems. After the surgery, we received a $16,000 bill with a statement saying all procedures are not covered because we didn’t use in network doctors. So I make some calls and come to find out the nearest doctor or hospital that is in network is 2 hours away! Nothing around me is in network!? BCBS told me I should have chosen the insurance plan with hsa and out of network coverage.
I have a 18 month old and a wife. I can’t wait till open enrollment to change health plans… what do I do?
United Healthcare - Sent a bill 13 months later
On March 11th, 2024, I had an outpatient surgery procedure done.
Flash forward to today, April 8th, 2025 and I just received a bill for over $3000 for this surgery. The bill states that the surgery cost overall was $20,000 and my insurance at the time paid for ~$16,000. I was covered under United healthcare and this coverage ended about 5 months ago.
Here are my questions:
1. Why am I just getting this bill now? Is this even legal? (I live in WI)
2. What would be the first step to getting this figured out?
unknown - CPT code confusion
I had an MRI arthrogram ( contrast for hip labrum and joint) and it was coded 27093, 77002, and 73722. And then the pharmacy drugs.
My insurance is trying to bill this a surgery as they say code 27093 is under the surgical code section in the CPT guidelines. Normally I would have 100 percent coverage for any outpatient clinic ( non hospital) MRIs. My insurance says even though this was not done at a surgical centre or with a surgeon ( only a radiologist), they can charge me as if it was a surgery and therefore also charge the radiologist as surgeon fees.
Does this make any sense at all? That way they say I have to pay 20 percent of the whole package of MRI ( 73722), Radiology diagnostic ( 77002) , and the local anesthetic used by the radiologist prior to the iodine injection ( 27093).
So even though my work insurance normally would cover radiology diagnostic and all imaging at 100 percent, they say because of 27093, this is now a full blown surgery and only covered at 80/20 rather than 100 percent.
Is this true? I will post in CPt code section.
State Farm - Car insurance experience with renewing
Hi, I recently had an experience that just baffled me and I was wondering if this is normal.
I was with State Farm for decades before I realized that they really did not care about my loyalty and would give new customers a better deal.
At that time last year, I switched to progressive. I really liked their online format. It was easy to use. I could pick out exactly what coverage I wanted for what vehicle.
At my first renewal, my premium went up by $20. One of the reasons I switched companies is because I felt that I was taking advantage of by State Farm over the years by increasing the price here and there.
I called them to inquire why and I was told that it was some kind of new customer discount that could no longer be applied to the policy. It sucks, but I shrugged it off and renewed.
I recently was up for renewal again and this time I jumped by $70. I have no accidents, no tickets. There are five cars total on the policy.
I called them about 20 days before my renewal was due. I spoke with a representative. Long story short, he said that he was able to get it back down to the original price and I would have to call him at the beginning of March to apply it to my account.
I tried calling leaving messages for about 3 to 4 days and was not able to contact him so I just contacted the regular number. I had a reference number that I was able to give the rep to look up this new quote.
They acknowledge it and as they are issuing the policy, they press some button and it magically goes up by $100 now. It cannot be undone and it pissed me off. I told them I no longer wanted to renew with them and I would find somebody else.
I ended up using a online broker tool, and it led me back to progressive. Where I proceeded to input all my information and not only did they give me a quote, but this quote is cheaper than my original quote last year for the same exact coverage for 5 vehicles.
So are we just supposed to be applying as a new customer every single year for policies? Overall, I ended up saving $475.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - Payments for lab work disappearing from bank statements
Not really sure the best place to post this question.
My health insurance fully covers labwork, which I confirmed with them prior to getting an MMR immunity test earlier this month. As in they couldn't find anything in my coverage about specific tests because I have 100% coverage.
So day of my appointment imagine my surprise when the phlebotomist at my doctors office says I owe $40 to quest for the lab work(in addition to my $25 copay that I paid at the front desk). I thought it was weird, but figured I'd get a refund when I got my EOB. So I hand over my debit card, she enters the info on her computer, draws my blood, and then I go on my way. Today I get the EOB for that visit and it says, as expected, I shouldn't have paid anything for that visit. So I check both my bank accounts only to find there is no $40 charge for Quest anywhere.
And then I remember the same thing happened in January with Labcorp. I went to a physical Labcorp location for bloodwork ordered by my dermatologist, they said I owed some amount upfront, I handed over my card, then when I got my EOB it said I owed nothing, but when I checked my bank statements there wasn't a charge from Labcorp at all. Nothing the day of, and nothing on subsequent days for a refund.
What is happening? Are they somehow able to void the charge so that it completely disappears from my bank statements when it turns out my insurance fully covered it?
In the future I'm going to be getting screenshots of any posted charges(and asking for a receipt), just to prove I'm not losing my mind. If they didn't charge my card on the day of my appointment, would they have charged it later upon learning I did owe something. Can they even legally charge my card at a later date, or would they have to send me a bill in that situation?
With the Labcorp charge I thought maybe I'd misremembered paying because I've been getting lab work there for years and never even had to stop at the front desk. My insurance at work did change from UHC to BCBS this year, but our coverage stayed the same. But I know for sure I handed over my debit card to the phlebotomist at my doctors office and watched her enter the card information on her computer. Though I don't remember if I got a notification of the charge on my banking app.
Do I still have to keep giving them my card if I know my insurance fully covers lab work but for some reason they are lying and saying I owe money upfront and then the charges are vanishing?
HealthyPaws - HealthyPaws 432% Increase, From $268 to $1162 in WA State
If this is legal it sure ain't ethical. I'm not often stunned by capitalism and greed but JFC. This is shameful. I feel so f'ed.
AllState - Additionally Insured Renters
I recently signed a lease for a new apartment. I currently have AllState, however they don’t allow Landlords/businesses to be additionally insured under my policy.
So what insurances do allow landlords to be additionally insured? NOT an additional interest. I can’t find any information on this! And every customer support/agent I talk to gets very confused.
renter's insurance - Mold in apartment, not sure what to do next
Location: Washington State
I’m dealing with a housing situation that has gotten increasingly serious, and I could use advice on whether I have a legal case and what my next steps should be. I don’t qualify for free legal aid, but I also can’t afford to hire a lawyer outright. I’ve already spoken with the Tenants Union of Washington State, who suggested I update my complaint with the city’s code enforcement office on Monday because the situation has escalated significantly since I first reported it. They also mentioned I might be entitled to compensation that my landlord isn’t disclosing (either intentionally or not). I’m wondering if I should wait to hear from code enforcement again or if I need to start pursuing legal representation now.
My story begins at the start of the new year. On January 6, I submitted a service request because the floor in my entryway was visibly warped and I was having trouble closing my front door. On January 8, maintenance came out, removed the weather stripping from the bottom of the door, and marked the request as complete even though no inspection was done and the root issue wasn’t addressed. At that point, I figured I had at least documented the damage in case they tried to blame me later, but I had no idea how bad things were about to get.
On March 26, I submitted another repair request because there was now visible water damage and possible mold along the baseboards next to my front door, along with the floorboards becoming even more warped. In my bathroom, there was a significant colony of black, furry mold that had grown between the wall and a small stepstool I had propped up against it. I had also noticed that there were "blisters" in the paint on the walls in the hallway leading up to my apartment where water had obviously started to pool. Maintenance showed up the next day, told me they would "call someone," and once again closed the ticket without fixing or really even looking at anything. On March 29, I went into the leasing office to speak with someone in person because I felt like the issue was not being addressed properly and I wanted some answers. I explained the problem to the leasing agent and he asked me to send him an email describing the issue (which I did) and that I should open yet another repair request for the issue (which I also did.)
On April 1, the maintenance person showed up again. This time, he brought a pipe wrench and literally tried to hammer down the warped floorboards (no joke). Then he sprayed two sprays of mold inhibitor on the wall next to the front door “just in case.” That afternoon, I was told that a water restoration company would be out the next day to inspect the unit.
The water restoration company came first thing on April 2, while I was still in bed. They found significant moisture behind the walls and suspected the presence of mold. The property manager came by a few minutes before noon, took photos, and informed me that my apartment was currently uninhabitable. He told me to file a claim with my renter’s insurance for a hotel. I work from home and was in the middle of my work day when he told me that the water restoration company would be arriving shortly to start dismantling my bathroom to start looking for the cause of the leak. I ended up making a claim with my renter's insurance (even though I believe property management is responsible for the cost of temporary housing) but without a statement of cause, my insurance wouldn't help me find a place to stay so I had to make arrangements on my own for myself and my dog. I'm currently staying in a hotel down the street from my apartment building that is being charged to my credit card.
On April 3, the leasing manager called me to inform me that my apartment is unlivable and they have no timeline for repairs, so I have the option to either break my lease with no penalty or move into another unit (with them paying the moving costs). I asked him to send the offer via email because I needed a written record of the offer before I would even consider anything. He sent me an email the next day (April 4) briefly outlining my two options: either I transfer to another one-bedroom unit in the building at my current rental rate, or I break my lease with no penalties. That’s it. He didn't even include the offer to cover moving expenses to the new unit.
I'm stuck in a frustrating situation with no real solutions. My renter's insurance isn’t covering my hotel costs because they won’t pay without a statement of cause, which I still don’t have. Even if they do cover it, I’ll still be out $250 because of my deductible. I expect the property management company to take responsibility for that since the damage was caused by their neglect. The options they’ve offered don’t even begin to address the full scope of the inconvenience and stress I’m dealing with. There’s no mention of covering the moving costs, or even offering rent relief for the time I’ve been displaced. Neither of these options account for the impact this situation has had on me and my dog.
What should I be doing next? I’ve already filed a complaint with the city’s code enforcement office and plan to follow up on Monday, but I’m not sure if I should be waiting for them or moving ahead with other options, including legal advice. I know I can’t afford to hire a lawyer outright, but I also feel like I’m being jerked around by the property management company and my renter's insurance. Any advice on what steps I should take next?
