Pets Best - Pets Best Nightmare
We got pets best insurance a few years ago and this year our 9 year old dog was diagnosed with lymphoma. After a few months of receiving expected claims, they suddenly started denying everything, forcing us to appeal every time. After appeals, they usually end up paying, but it’s incredibly annoying. But this month, our policy renewal came and they DOUBLED our premium!! DOUBLED, in the first and only year where we actually made claims…. How is this legal? They say it’s across all their plans, but I don’t believe it for a second. Anyone have this happen?
State Farm - Glass coverage in CA?
Got a crack on windshield recently and just found out there is no specific "Glass coverage" policy for me. What I'm trying to say is if I wanna use my insurance to replace the windshield then I need to use the main accident coverage or something to cover it and I have $1000 deductable since Safelite gives me a $1100 quote and if I use insurance it will make my rates higher in the future, so it's kinda worthless and means I have to pay the $1100 windshield by myself. I've heard some ppl have a specific glass coverage which means it will cover any glass replacement with 0 deductable and will not affect my rates.
So my question it's the CA thing or did I just pick the bad company? I have Statefarm for now since it's the "No.1" insurance company and I just don't wanna any trouble if one day I have some damage and need to claim. If it's the company, any recommendations? Ty.
HealthyPaws - Switching from HealthyPaws?
My 2-year-old husky/rottie mix, Raymond, is insured through HealthyPaws. They have been wonderful- it's $57/month for 90% reimbursement with a $250 deductible. As I'm sure you can guess from his breed, he has had several expensive accidents, especially when he was little. HealthyPaws has covered all of them and saved me thousands. There's also no annual limit.
My boyfriend and I live together now, and we want to insure his 8-year-old greyhound/lab mix, Tucker. He's healthy and has no pre-existing conditions. I called HealthyPaws to add him, but they said the only option is $69/month for 50% reimbursement with a $1000 deductible. While looking into other options, I found tons of reviews saying that HealthyPaws significantly increases premiums each year. Now, I'm considering moving Ray too and putting both dogs on a new plan.
Despite competitive pricing, it looks like Lemonade is bad about premium hikes too. Trupanion would triple Ray's premium and make Tucker's absolutely ridiculous. Nationwide only offered Tucker a dirt cheap plan that doesn't cover illness. PetsBest gave me a great quote for both dogs, but has mixed reviews about coverage and price hikes.
I'd appreciate any recommendations/advice. I'm looking for a company that is able to do 90% reimbursement and a lower deductible for Tucker despite his age, doesn't increase premiums much each year, has no annual limit (or a very high one), and doesn't deny claims for stupid reasons. Add-on riders for routine wellness are a plus as long as the limits are reasonable- we spend $400+ each on Simparica Trio each year, and their annual exams are pricey.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - Help! What are my options?
Hi all, thanks in advance for reading this. My situation is this: I’ve started a new job that had 3 options for health insurance. All were blue cross blue shield. 1 option was no hsa but in and out of network coverage. 2 options had hsa’s but one had in and out of network coverage and the other didn’t. I figured I’d get the was with a hsa and no out of network coverage. BCBS is very common where I live and figured no issues.
Well, my son had to have surgery but before hand, we gave our new insurance to all the doctors and they said they accepted it with no problems. After the surgery, we received a $16,000 bill with a statement saying all procedures are not covered because we didn’t use in network doctors. So I make some calls and come to find out the nearest doctor or hospital that is in network is 2 hours away! Nothing around me is in network!? BCBS told me I should have chosen the insurance plan with hsa and out of network coverage.
I have a 18 month old and a wife. I can’t wait till open enrollment to change health plans… what do I do?
USPS - Dispute cars value
Is there a way to dispute your cars value ? Insurance gave me a value of $12,000(I think that’s HIGH) for my 17’ Chevy Cruze with close to 180,000 miles on it + body damage . I was hit by usps and the damage is roughly $6,000-6,500 so we tried to get usps to pay for the damage but they won’t exceed $5,400 because my cars not worth more than that to them (which I agree) I’ve personally been saying since I got the repair estimate costs that it’s totaled. Kellybluebook value is about $5,300, a car dealership gave me $6,000 for the value so HOW is insurance $6,000 more than the 3 of those values. If usps won’t even give me the amount of damage shouldn’t my Isnurance reconsider their value ?
Chase - Random driver backed into my rental car
This happened in Texas, USA fwiw. Thanks for any opinions or advice.
I did not purchase the rental company's insurance but did pay for the rental with my Chase Sapphire, which has good collision coverage.
Dent in bumper not too major. The other driver clearly was at fault and in fact didn't even collect my info since we both knew it was her fault. I got all her info and now my rental company is *trying to get my insurance info*. I refused to give them my insurance info on the accident form when I returned the vehicle since I wasn't liable. Also I only have liability.
The rental company, in their initial email after the accident did not mention whether they tried to contact the other person.
What's my play? Should I contact Chase first and get a person for the rental company to contact or what should I do?
Pets Best Insurance - Puppy Got Sick Right After Adoption—Pet Insurance Denied My Claim. Any Advice?
Hey everyone,
We recently adopted a puppy from a rescue center, and he’s been such a sweet little guy. On the same day we brought him home, we also signed up for pet insurance with Pets Best Insurance because I read a lot of good reviews.
Unfortunately, just about five days later, he got really sick and was diagnosed with puppy strangles. He’s been on corticosteroids for the past three weeks now, and we’ve had multiple vet visits—for treatment, vaccinations, and other related care. So far, I’ve paid around $1,000 out of pocket.
I submitted a claim to the insurance company, but they rejected it, saying it falls within the waiting period. I get that there’s a waiting period, but we had no idea he was going to get sick when we signed up for the policy.
Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Is there any way to appeal or get around the waiting period issue?
Also, if I switch to another insurance provider now, will this count as a pre-existing condition, and will they refuse to cover anything related to this illness?
Appreciate any advice or shared experiences—just trying to navigate this unexpected situation the best I can.
Thanks!
UnitedHealthcare - Can an insurance company refuse to allow me to file a claim?
Long story short, I recently got a grant for my son who has autism spectrum disorder and was able to find a provider who had social skills therapy for him. The grant will reimburse me costs 100% however they need a copy of the EOB. I found a provider who was out of network but was the only one offering this therapy in the time period I needed it. She was upfront saying that we would have to file our own claim which I have no problem with. She provided the superbill and all of the codes.
Well today I logged into UHC to try to submit a mental health claim and the form is not available, then I called them and they told me that I cannot submit my own claim. I told them that my provider does not file claims but they were insistent on saying that the doctor would have to file them. Is this a common practice? I am just frustrated.
Progressive - Completely confused as to how my car isn’t totaled
Let me preface this by saying I might totally be in the wrong here.
I hit a deer a few weeks ago, messed my car up pretty bad. It’s a 2017 Mercedes C300. The hood, bumper, grill, and right headlight assembly need to be replaced. Right fender can probably just be repaired. Regardless, estimate of the damages came out to about $7,700. I was SURE this would total the car, as I knew that my car was only worth $9-$10k. I had been trying to sell/trade it for the past year. It has 110,052 miles on it, cosmetic damages, coolant leak in the heater core, needs a new purge valve, etc. I have had four different dealerships tell me that it’s worth no more than $10k, and two offered me $5k to buy outright, other two offered $7,600 which is what carmax values it at. MERCEDES told me the car was not worth putting $8k worth of damage into and would give me $5k for it.
Progressive tried to tell me it was worth $16,475. This number is based on what dealerships SELL my car for on average. My question is… if the car were to be totaled, they would NOT give me $16k for it, because that’s not what it’s worth. So how can they value the car at that price? It’s also a hypothetical number with dealership markups. They never sent anyone out to look at my car, they never asked about previous damage, NOTHING. The guy kept blowing me off and stated that they won’t run the value unless it’s totaled and flagged and we had not gotten to that point.
Is this even legal?? I’m supposed to have the estimator call me tomorrow, but as far as I’m concerned, all he did was plug my vin into Mitchell Connect and say that it would sell for this so that’s what it’s worth. Should I fight harder? Everyone I’ve spoken to has told me to.
State Farm - What's the best alternative to State Farm?
I'm shopping around for car insurance. I'm 38F and never had anything but State Farm, but I was rear ended in an accident last year and had a mostly bad experience dealing with customer service and claims. My parents had a life insurance policy for my mother. When she passed away the office somehow marked me as the deceased party, which also lead to me having to "prove" that I was not dead. Keeping in my mind my mother and I share a last name and had our insurances at the same office/broker, but we have completely separate policies. When I told the agent that is what happened, she was combative even though the date of the change corresponded with my mother's death. After my accident, there were significant delays in getting my payment because of some issues they were having with setting up digital payments for me. All around bad experience with customer service and claims who were not empathetic or helpful. When I switched my insurance to a new agent's office for my new car, they put the incorrect financing information on my policy. Had to call several times to change. Realized that they had the wrong mailing address and garage address, even though I had also changed these. I, no joke, had to call on four separate occasions to try to change my garage address. They kept telling me it would be reflected on my policy within a month, but when I checked, my old garage address was still there. Conveniently, my rate at my new address is cheaper.
I will say prior to the past couple years I had great experiences with State Farm. It seems lately to have maybe gone down hill, and I am a pretty dang patient person.
It's not all about price for me either. I'm happy to change to somewhere with better service even if slightly more expensive.
Does anyone actually have a car insurance company they can recommend based on good experiences and/or customer service?
