State Farm - Has anyone ever had to pay $825/month car insurance (state farm) for a 2017 toyota corolla?
It’s a long story but I’ll try to shorten it.
I’m not 100% sure how insurance works. My car is under my name but my insurance is shared with my parents. My parents have a few other family members included (me, one sister that is 25, an uncle, an aunt). But my Toyota Corolla 2017 is under my name, automatic payments under my own bank account, etc. I guess my parents own the whole insurance policy but the car is under my name.
My bill in December 2024 was raised to $400 (NOT full coverage)
They won’t give a clear answer as to why they raised my bill so high. But I let it slide. I saw it as a consequence to our current economy.
In february they charged me $825. No clear answer. They gave me unreasonable excuses such as being under 25 (I’m 28), or someone else under the policy is under 25 (no one is under 25). Someone that USED to be on it was under 25 but they got their own insurance under a different company over a year ago. But they used that person as an excuse either way. We even sent proof that they are no longer with State Farm and for how long but that wasn’t enough.
We dispute it. They compromised and said I won’t have to pay my “$400 bill” for March. Technically half of $824 isn’t $400 so in the end they won an extra $25 from me.
Today they told me I still owe $200 this month and $200 next month. That they’re splitting the $425 between March and April.
PLUS they randomly began charging my 25 yr old sister an extra $26 AND used the name of the person who was under 25 on that bill (again, that person has not been with us or state farm for over a year).
Does anyone have any idea what’s going on? We’ve never been late on payments, we paid off our cars, we never fight them when they raise our bill (except for this time because $825 a month is excessive). My last accident was in 2022, it was not my fault, I never filed a claim or asked for money to fix my car, I asked for info about my options 2 years after the fact (in 2024) but it was too late to do anything about it anyway.
I’m planning to cancel my policy with State Farm but I’m still curious about what is happening here.
Fetch - Fetch (formerly Petplan) Canada first claim
I originally signed up for Petplan Canada because we had it for my cat in the UK and they were pretty good.
Signed my cat up here in Canada when she was about 7 years old. A few years ago they got bought by Fetch who definitely seemed a bit dodgy based on the sudden price increase and trying to sell preventative care packages that are a total scam.
Made my first claim this summer (she's now ~12?) when my cat suddenly got very sick from a hairball. She had a lot of tests including X-ray blood test, and ultrasound at the emergency vet. My Fetch policy at the time was about $133/month ($1500/year) with 90% coverage, max deductible ($650). They reimbursed $2500 of the $3500 without any resistance for which I was pleasantly surprised. I just got the email for the policy renewal and it has gone up from $1500/year to $2500/year. Some of that would be from my cat being one year older.
Trupanion - Trupanion Price increase
So I just got a 37% increase this year and this is now a 77% over two years. Based on the cost increases in my area for Vet care.
This is what they said:
We recently reviewed the data for similar pets in your area, and we found that the average cost and use of veterinary care has increased. To ensure that Geena always has access to the best veterinary care possible, we’ll be changing Geena's monthly cost from $302.79 to $413.04 starting on August 17, 2025.
Trupanion is unique in that we never increase your monthly cost because you’ve submitted an invoice or because your pet ages.
When I called them they said there are many factors that go into this cost one of them is the increased cost of vet care for an older dog. So they do not increase for cost because your dog is older but they do increase your cost because and older dog vet cost are higher.
Don't you love insurance companies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trumpanion - Overwhelming options
I was hopping someone could help me. My family is adopting a puppy this April and we want to get insurance coverage for it. I have read reviews online and here and it seems like people don’t like most companies because, shockingly, insurance companies don’t want to pay up. So I guess what I’m asking is does anyone have a recommendation for a company that reliably pays claims? I’m not too concerned about reimbursement times a month is fine, but I just don’t want to get scammed. It seems Trumpanion is very popular but also is 2x the cost of everyone else, To the tune of 1200 a year.
It seems from the research I have done, Lemonaid, Figo, Fetch and Met Life have plans I could work with. Fetch being the cheapest and covering initial visits which is cool
But concerning that it’s so cheap.
Also is 10,000 annual coverage sufficient? I live in Seattle suburbs and have no idea what stuff costs.
Thanks for any insight you all might have.
Farmers Insurance - Homeowners liability coverage
I am trying to understand my Farmers insurance homeowners liability coverage and farmers isn’t being helpful at all. Basically what happened is while my wife and I were out of the country, my child accidentally kicked my sprinkler line near the drip system and broke it. Long story short, it flooded a room in my neighbors home over about a 7 day period. They just kept mopping it up and hoping it would stop. I’m not sure why they let it go on for that long but they did. Anyway it ruined some of the floor and caused some moisture to settle into the drywall. It was about a 15 ft x 15 ft area of water damage. Will my homeowners liability insurance cover the water damage in this situation?
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan - BCBSM vs Medicaid Question
Hi all,
I’m in a common and frustrating position revolving around paying for health insurance. Here is my situation.
I work part-time and go to school part-time, so I don’t qualify for full-time benefits for work or any equivalent part-time healthcare offers in Michigan So that’s the first part.
I gross about $600 a month working and my healthcare premium is $650 a month alone for BCBSM HMO Gold plan. It just is not feasible to pay that much for healthcare anymore- especially, out of pocket in full.
What I do have is Medicaid and CarePayment accounts that help me cover the costs and pay down medical debt in a reasonable time frame. I need some coverage because I have a mental health condition and commonly use: medications, psychiatry, therapy, and labs.
I am wondering if I can get by just with MI Medicaid. Is that risky since Medicaid has very low reimbursement rates? Or is it reasonable to go with Medicaid and just try to be frugal medically?
What I want to avoid is going for routine procedures and leaving with a $1200 bill, AND paying $650 a month only to use it half hazardously.
Thanks.
Allstate - Allstate overcharged home insurance for years, will not give us our money back
Can anyone give me an idea of what to do? Allstate misrepresented how many sq feet our house is. My spouse (who does most of the bills etc) did not notice this for literally years, and made a phone call as soon as they did. It's a difference of about a thousand dollars a year. Allstate readjusted the sq footage. They gave us one year's overpayment back, and basically told us too bad about the rest, and there's nothing they can do about it. Well of course there is something they can do about it, they just chose not to.
They gave us a year back. We got our next bill in the mail last week, and they had put the wrong sq footage on it again! Needless to say this is super aggravating. Their refusal to do anything is really absurd. They stole from us and don't care at all. You know how it is...every person we talk to just sends us to someone else. Is there anything I can do? Any advice would be so appreciated.
State Farm - Umbrella policy confusion
Was hoping to get some insight before I call my agent. My $1 Million umbrella policy with State Farm has really gone up this past few years from $300 to over $1500 per year. So I started looking at it and saw the following:
Automobile Liability: $500,000
Recreational Motor Vehicle Liability: $500,000
Personal Residential Liablility: $100,000
Watercraft Liability: $100,000
I don't know what a Recreational Motor Vehicle is. I have 2 cars used for commuting around town. I don't have an RV or Jeep for off-roading. So what good is that doing me?
I don't have a watercraft. I consider watercraft to be a money pit and I'll never own one. I'm in Florida near the water, so maybe it's assumed I have a watercraft? I don't know.
I feel like I'm paying for a bunch of insurance I don't need. Any advice would be appreciated.
Nationwide - I’m overwhelmed, help!
I’ve been looking for pet insurance and I’m so overwhelmed. I need help!
I was looking at nationwide since it looked affordable but then I read awful things. I’m hoping someone can give me some recommendations!
I live in Illinois.
8 year old Pomeranian, she had luxating patella (not sure how it’s spelled, but where her knee pops out of place).
7 almost 8 year old dachshund. He doesn’t have any pre-existing conditions!
Edit: THANK YOU for all the responses!
ICICI Lombard - ICICI Lombard Tried to Guilt Trip Me During Porting
I've had a health insurance policy for my mother with ICICI Lombard since 2007. The recent premium was ₹70,000 (including GST) for a sum insured of ₹3 lakhs + ₹3 lakhs bonus, totaling ₹6 lakhs annually.
For the past few years, I had been meaning to port the policy but never got around to it. This year, I finally managed to do it—moved to Care Insurance. The new plan offers ₹10 lakhs sum insured with a 50% increase each year, covers pre/post hospitalization, existing diseases, and even includes a few more benefits. And all this for a significantly better premium of 51000 (inclusive GST).
After I initiated the port, I got a call from ICICI Lombard asking if I wanted to renew. I politely informed them that I had ported to Care. As expected, they started with the usual pitch about how ICICI is better than Care. When I still didn’t budge, the agent had the audacity to say:
**“Lagta hai aap yeh premium afford nahi kar sakte.”**
(Translation: *Looks like you can't afford this premium.*)
Really? Is this how some insurance companies try to manipulate customers—by playing on their ego?
Anyway, I'm glad I finally made the switch. ICICI may want to revisit how their customer support operates.
