Healthy Paws - Avoid healthy paws
Current policy holder for two animals since 2018. Aside from the constant increase in premiums… now that I’ve begun filing claims they are questioning the breed of the dog and threatening to double my premiums if I don’t validate a large mix breed vs a mix pit bull.
Disgusted.
Aetna - Reverse a processed claim - Aetna
I got a MRI done two weeks ago. When I scheduled the appointment the staff told me they didn’t know the amount to be billed since my insurance is a high yield deductible and no copay. They mentioned that if I want to pay out of pocket without using my insurance it would be $500.
Fast forward I received a processed claim from Aetna saying that I need to pay $920 and that the X-ray company billed them $1,200.
Is there any way to reverse this? I feel scammed by both the X-ray company and Aetna. Can I fight back a processed claim?
Trupanion - Just got a denial from Trupenion and wondering if I should just cancel
The claim was for dental surgery
(periodontal disease). The reason it was denied is that the cat had no previous medical records showing his dental condition. They also said that no single exam is going to be enough to establish he didn't have previous dental problems, they need to see a record of his health over time.
I do realise that dental is a separate category as far as most insurence companies are concerned, but I also wonder if they won't use the same reasoning in future claims. How can I prove something wasn't a preexisting condition if I don't have records?
Some background: My cat who is now 8 year old, grew up as a partly feral street cat in a non western country. Yearly vet visits for cats are not common practice there, and with him being the kind of cat that requires sedatives in order to get in a carrier, he ended up visiting a clinic even less than the average cat.
In short he has barely any medical records from before arriving in Canada last year.
I was actually a little surprised to see that I could even get insurance for a cat his age, but now I'm starting to suspect that they're just fine with taking my money but will never approve a claim.
TLDR: Should I cancel an 8 year old cats insurence if he doesn't have any previous medical records?
Air France - Air france refusing compensation
Location: MI, USA
Last month, I booked a round trip with Delta and the flight from Mumbai to Paris, operated by Air France was delayed by 2 hrs due to crew issues. I missed my delta connection from Paris to Detroit and they had no flights going to Detroit that day.
I was given the option of either NY or Chicago and I opted for Chicago. Now when I boarded that flight, it got delayed by 3 hours. Wifi in the flight did not work.
I missed my delta connection (again) from Chicago to Detroit.
-The Mumbai flight crew lied that they would arrange an escort for all 15 odd passengers who have connections through security and ask AF to wait for 30 mins. They lied. AF said no such information was relayed but they did not even load our bags in the aircraft as they know we wont be making it on time.
-I filled a complaint with delta
—> Delta said reach out to Air france
-I filed a complaint with Air France
—> compensation rejected due to journeys begins and ends out of EU. [EC Regulation 261/2004]
( I don’t know how it makes sense)
- I called customer service
—> wont even let me talk to the refund team.
When I was stuck in the second flight, I had a chat with customer service and they had offered me 100€ for the inconvenience (which I denied at that point), however now they claim I am not eligible for anything at all.
How can I approach this problem?
Progressive - Insurance deny claim on 2023 Honda
My wife wrecked her 2023 Honda Accord last month when she hit a deer in the road, Progressive came back and said they are not going to cover the car as 1 rear tire was below safe level of tread (not even sure how that possible in 21,000 miles) is she just stuck paying on this totaled car, and the weekly storage fees at the tow lot for eternity?
KIA Insurance - Totaled car, no collision coverage, still owe money on loan. What do I do?
I hope I'm in the right sub for this but I'm not sure, if there is a better place for this post please let me know.
So I got into an accident that I was at fault, I do not have collision coverage, and I still owe about $19,000 on the vehicle. I asked my insurance and without coverage there is nothing they can do. It is not drivable and the air bags deployed. There is heavy front end damage but the rest of the vehicle is fine. I've only taken it to one shop for an estimate because I don't want to keep paying for a tow to get different quotes and they all end up being close to the same amount anyway. The estimate I got was $20,000 to fix it, so I'm not going to be able to afford that, and even if I could I don't see how that would be worth it. The car before the accident was probably worth $20,000 - $25,000 at most. (2022 KIA K5 GT LINE). I have pictures of the vehicle as well but wasn't sure if I was allowed to include those in the post.
So as far as I see it, it's going to just sit somewhere until I pay off what I owe. So instead of paying a storage fee to keep it somewhere (my apartment doesn't allow vehicles that aren't drivable to stay in the parking lot), I want to either sell it or scrap it. Whatever I decide to do with it, I want the next tow to be the last.
If I can make a little bit of money on it, great, if not then like I said if I can at least avoid a storage fee or paying to tow it several times that's a win for me. Anything I do make would go straight towards paying it off anyway. I'm already pretty screwed, paying on a car that I can't drive so I'm trying to see my options and cut my losses.
I've gotten suggestions to declare bankruptcy, sell it, scrap it, keep it, sell all the parts individually, sell it as a whole for parts. A lot of the issue is, I don't think I can sell it, even to a salvage yard, without paying it off first, so what do I do with it until then? That's going to take a long time for me. I can't afford to fix it, can't sell it, scrap it etc. What do I do?
And I understand I'm not going to make money on this, I understand I'm screwed either way, I understand that I will not financially recover from this for quite some time. So I'm just asking what is my best course of action to cut my losses as much as possible? Is there a way to sell it before paying it off? Do I need to let the lender know about the accident? Is there a different way insurance can help even though they said they can't? Is there a service or organization that helps with this sort of thing? Should I declare bankruptcy?
Healthy Paws Pet Insurance - Healthy paws pet insurance
Is it even legal for Healthy Paws pet insurance to increase premiums at almost 200% in CA? This is outrageously high!! Anyone experiencing the same?

Allstate - Car Insurance Drastically Increasing
I have Allstate currently, paying ~$300/month for bare minimum requirements on financed car. Final payment was just drafted, and they sent me renew documents. New monthly premium will be almost $400/month. No accidents, incidents, new drivers, nothing. Everything is exactly the same as when I started the policy. Why would it go up so much? I expected an increase but I feel like this is a lot. I’m a fairly young driver (22) with a newer vehicle, so I know that’s a factor, but I simply can’t afford to pay that much. Is it going up for everyone?
Ohio Insurance Company - Should I sue my hospital?
Age: 37
State: Ohio
In December of last year, I was recommended to get a colonoscopy due to family history. When I spoke with the specialist doctor, he said that "since you'll be under (anesthetics), we could also do an EGD." He then asked if I ever get heartburn, and I said sure but it was infrequent and I knew the triggers and how to take care of it, but if, like the colonoscopy, my insurance completely covered it and I wouldn't be paying, I'd be okay with that. He said sure, they could do that.
Fast forward a month later and the hospital is charging me because they submitted the EGD as diagnostic. So the doctor ignored the condition under which I agreed to the procedure.
I've been fighting this ever since then. The hospital investigated and since they don't keep audio with the cameras, and don't have call logs (the doctor's assistant called me a few days beforehand and said they convinced my insurance to cover the EGD, and I confirmed with her that I wouldn't have to pay for it), they're refusing to do anything about it. The bill is about $1,900.
I've filed a complaint/appeal with my insurance, but that takes up to 60 days, and is still going through the process (I had called them the day before the procedure and confirmed it's "covered," and the CSR said yes, she sees that that's been approved). I e-mailed the state department of health, talked with the state hospital association (they have no legal authority and can't do anything), filed with the BBB, filed with the state attorney general, filed with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, sent my story to the local newspaper, left a Google review, and am waiting to hear back from the state insurance department (they can't do anything until my insurance appeal gets resolved).
My last option is to sue them in small claims court. The lawyers in my area said they don't handle cases like mine. What umbrella term would this fall under? Misrepresentation / promissory estoppel? The only lawyer who agreed to a consultation said it's better to go after the insurance company, but I don't see this as their fault. I can also call the hospital and negotiate a lower repayment, but I'm angry I have to pay anything at all when a promise was made to me that I wouldn't owe anything. Is this something I just have to bite the bullet on?
Edit: Thank you to the 20% of people who explained what the hospital staff should have explained to me, gave me options to pursue, and ideas on how to protect myself in the future. The rest of you, I hope you understand that the vast majority of people don't work in this industry, and blaming the victim of a convoluted and broken system is real shitty.
State Farm - Ohio roof damage
I live in Ohio and have State Farm for my homeowners policy. My roof was damaged by wind end of September 2024 and siding was torn off my house. I also have water damage inside my home. I had a contractor out and State Farm had their contractor out to assess damage. I have a $6k deductible and State Farm deemed it was repairable. Payout is $4k but I appealed because of the matching code in Ohio and I don’t agree the roofing repairs will match my current roof. In the meantime, another storm passed through and now shingles are flying off my house. I am 20 years in on a 30 year shingle. State Farm wants me to file a new claim, and a new $6k deductible. I believe they should have covered it from the beginning. Now what do I do?
