His insurance - Should I reach out to my own insurance for an auto incident where I am not at fault?
So recently someone backed into me at the parking lot and damaged the front of my car. We exchanged information etc and the person initially was thinking to settle it without involving insurance. I was fine with this and reached out to a few places, but most say it is hard to determine the total damage without doing a full diagnostics because there are many sensors/cameras/lights in that area. Only 1 place gave me a preliminary estimate after looking at the damage.
We then decided to get insurance involved. His insurance assumed full liability and send out a person to estimate the damage visually. The estimate is quite low, lower than the place who gave me an estimate directly. They said I would need to take my car to a shop that is willing to work with their rate. If additional damage is determined, then the shop would work with the insurance company for any additional costs.
During this whole process, I feel like the other person's insurance treats me like I am trying to scam them. I asked what if the shop dong want to fix the car because the insurance estimate is too low, and they said that I would have to pay for the different if the shop is not willing to work with their rate.
So now I am wondering if it makes sense if I reach out to my insurance company and report this incident, would they deal with the other person's insurance instead of me dealing with it directly?
Thank you.
her insurance - Rear ended at a stop light in California
Good morning,
So on my way to work I got rear ended at a traffic light and me and the girl who rear ended me pulled over. She apologized profusely saying she assumed I was going to run a red light. We exchanged insurance info and number. She then started texting me begging to not go through the insurance for this and that reason and that she’ll pay me $500 out of pocket if we don’t go through the insurance. I refused and went through the correct route of reporting it to her insurance… but after a couple weeks of waiting, they denied my claim reasoning that I made an unsafe lane change which I didn’t. I did swap lane from left to right and as I was merging the light turned yellow and I eased in on the break to a stop… she assumed I will run the red light which caused the crash. She hit me on the rear end and most of the damage is in the left side of my car… I showed their insurer the texts exchange between me and her… I also reasoned that it’s untrue that I made an “unsafe” lane change because why would the damage to my car be on left side?
So I’m wondering what my options are? Thank you for listening!
insurance company Y - accident covered by non-insurance company?
Two weeks ago, I got rear-ended by a commercial truck owned by a logistics company, X.
I originally filed the claim through their insurance company, Y (as listed on the driver information exchange).
A few days later, insurance company Y told me that company X would cover the accident and gave me a claim number with X.
I can only get in touch with X by email (which has very slow correspondence), and their phone line is always busy. After I sent them all the information they requested, the only response I got was that they are "reviewing" the case and will discuss it after that—without mentioning how long it will take. Since they are not an insurance company, I assume they don’t handle claims in the standard way.
Now it's been more than two weeks, and I still have no idea how they plan to address this.
Are there any legal requirements for how soon they need to respond and resolve the issue? (I do not want to go through my own insurance and pay out of pocket.)
What actions can I take to push them to make progress on this?
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Auto-Owners Insurance - Switching from incompetent agency for inability to cover
So this is a bit long and involved. I’m a 25M who just moved back home to take over a family business after a family member was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. We have a block of commercial units we rent out, most of them under one roof, and two units disconnected from the main building. In total we have about 75,000 SF of commercial retail space.
Problem is when the landlord has Alzheimer’s they forget to do important things like carrying insurance on the main building with 65,000 SF. So I went to the insurance agency we’ve always went through for literally everything commercial or otherwise. They insisted for two months that I had coverage on all the properties (unfortunately I don’t have that in writing) despite being unable to provide a bill or declarations listing the units. It took me ambushing the agent at the office an hour away and showing her a map of the property for her to understand that despite the disconnected units being covered, the main building and parking lot carried no coverage. She had never even audited the property or looked at it on maps nor visited it.
She finally says she’ll get working on adding the main units to the policy, and today she emails me right before she leaves to tell me there is no way possible for auto-owners to cover us as we have two restaurants on the property (my gf used to work as a receptionist at a different agency auto-owners does do commercial coverage for restaurants in my area). So now I’m stuck here with no insurance on a multimillion dollar lot because I get the feeling the agent doesn’t feel like rewriting the policy.
All of my families coverage for everything is through this agency and auto-owners but the agency is incompetent at the very least and it’s evident I need to switch agencies at least. The only experience I have with insurance prior to this is renters insurance and personal auto, I’m really at a loss for where to start or what I should be switching around. Any advice or guidance is appreciated.
Erie Insurance - Am I Screwed? Non-Renewal Notice w/ Potential Claim
Just got a letter from Erie Insurance a few weeks ago that my broker was dropping Erie and I need to find new insurance. I have a damaged chimney that I was planning on having an adjuster out to investigate to see if it was covered or not. I noticed the damage months ago, but decided to get quotes from brick masons before calling my agent. It took a very long time to even get anyone who would show up to quote it for me. Was told that it was structural and the chimney needed to be demoed down to the roof line and rebuilt, adding some new lintel. Quote was $7,500. I called my insurance agent and left messages on a few occasions. There does seem to be water damage under the roof, but I think it’s on old repair from where I had the chimney flashing and sheeting replaced around the base of the chimney at the roof years ago.
So a few weeks ago, I get a letter stating that my policy was not renewing. I just talked to my broker and mentioned the potential claim (probably stupid move on my part) and what to do. After some questions, it looks like if I start a claim with Erie, it will show up on reports the new company can see and will have an open claim without a disposition. I could just jump ship altogether and get a new policy and hope they don’t do an inspection and find the chimney damage. I obviously need to get this fixed, and I will, but the timing of all this is terrible. If I can’t get a new policy because there is existing damage, there will be a lapse in coverage which could also screw me.
Anyone got any advice? I’m thinking of just rolling the dice with a new claim and hope for no inspection, get the chimney fixed out of pocket and move on with my life. My dad recently switched from Erie to Farmer’s and they didn’t require any inspection that I’m aware of.
Farmers Insurance - Should I Counter This Lowball Insurance Offer?
Got into a car accident last year (rear-ended). Sent a demand letter to Farmers Insurance asking for:
* **$4,523** in gross medical expenses (I attached the detailed reports/receipts for them)
* **$33,000** for pain and suffering
* **$6,295** for diminished value (they said this will be handled separately)
Yesterday, they offered **$7,823** for my bodily injury claim. Seems like they’re barely covering my medical bills and throwing in a small amount for pain and suffering (10% of what I requested).
Should I counter? If so, should I slightly lower my initial demand (say $25K for pain and suffering) to show I’m negotiating in good faith, or should I stay firm on the original amount? Has anyone been through this process without an attorney and successfully negotiated a higher payout?
Btw, when my vehicle was in the shop, I gave the shop the insurance's contact info and the insurance paid the shop.
Looking for advice on next steps before I respond. Any input is appreciated!
Health Insurance - Is this fraud? Health insurance added extra funds for prescriptions to my out-of-pocket maximum, but I am concerned it was a system error.
I picked up a few prescriptions in January for a Tier 2/$30 copays. This was a transition fill because my employer switched pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) and the medications were not on the new formulary. They said the lower cost was a grace period and standard of care while appealing for an Exception For Coverage.
A few weeks later my Exception For Coverage for the medications were approved so I paid Tier 3/30% coinsurance on the next fills in February. The Exception For Coverage was backdated to January 1st, 2025. Then, the following month it looks like the PBM reprocessed the January fills as a Tier 3/30% coinsurance and the additional cost was applied to my out-of-pocket maximum accumulator through my health insurance.
I'm not sure what is going on here? I called the PBM and was advised that they will not recoup cost from me and they will not ask the pharmacy to reprocess the claim. The OOP max was never mentions previously, but the representative confirmed that my current out-of-pocket maximum (with the added amount) was accurate as well.
Is this common practice for PBMs? Or, could it have been a system error? Has anyone else had something like this happen to them? I am so confused about this because I have not been billed for the additional increase in coinsurance from the PBM, but it feels like fraud since I know the numbers do not add up.
Pet insurance - Puppy got Lyme disease, claimed denied for testing
My puppy recently got a tick bite and showed positive on Lyme disease after testing. Did more testing to see if treatment is required. Pet insurance denied my claim because I didn’t buy him the vaccine for Lyme disease offered by Vet. I have bought both internal and external de-wormer through Vet and PetSmart with records. I am trying to appeal this but want to know if I am supposed to buy that vaccine at the first place?
Am I supposed to buy anything Vet offered to make further claims approved?

SPOT Pet Insurance - SPOT pet insurance is a scam
After paying $60 bucks a months for almost a year, SPOT has denied every single attempt at being reimbursed and rejected every appeal. The rejection to the appeal contained information that was absolutely not true like that the symptoms started in the 14 day waiting period, even though it was for an emergency surgery many months after we started the policy. When I asked what next steps were, since there was clearly incorrect information in the rejection, I was told there was nothing they could do.
It's thousands of dollars, it's exactly what we pay insurance premiums for. It's the holidays and we are completely broke. We were counting on having this money reimbursed so that we could make rent this month. It's just pure cruelty and I don't understand how people like this sleep at night. AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE.
