Pets Best Insurance - Help with canceling Pets Best Insurance
Hello people, I am a bit of a pickle right now :(
I have been trying to cancel my Pets Best subscription/insurance for a good few days with no luck, the main reason why is because their prices have got up by a lot, and it simply isn’t in my budget atm, plus (knock on wood), my two cats are perfectly healthy besides the usual meowing because they aren’t allowed to eat every 5 mins.
I have called them so many times but I have been put on hold for 25-30 mins. It is really frustrating because I am worried they will charge me despite low funds in my account, making my account go into the negatives. And of course, me not wanting to pay 59 bucks a month when it was originally 47 bucks a month when I first joined almost 2 years ago. If anyone has any advice, please share.
Pets Best - Pets Best new underwriter better or worse then old one?
I just talked with Pets Best as I have a 30% increase in my premium for this next year (3 year old dog). They said they have changed underwriters and if I get a rewrite the new underwriter premiums are about the same price I have been paying (so 30% lower then the previous underwriter). I know all of the waiting periods would restart and no preexisting conditions (the only condition she has had they already denied saying it was preexisting (I had to switch after Many Pets stopped covering in my State)). Has anyone done this rewrite? Any one know if the new underwriter is better or worse vs the old?
Nationwide - Nationwide dropped us - help!
I have a 4-year-old French Bulldog, and we previously used Nationwide for her pet insurance. Unfortunately, we just found out they dropped our policy without any reason. I have been looking around for other pet insurance companies but feel frustrated by the pre-existing condition coverage. We signed up for trupanion but they want records of our last 2 years and my pet has a few things in the notes that I think will totally screw us going forward like itchy paws, a hurt pack, and previous GI bugs/UTIs. Has anyone found a good insurance company that will not be so harsh about not covering pre-existing conditions? Thanks in advance for the recommendations!
Fetch Insurance - Fetch Insurance | 50 Claims
Aside from the appalling over 100% premium increase in my renewal this year because my dog turned 10, I've noticed two new things in my Fetch policy.
If you have more than 50 claims they can remove discounts and lower coverage. I always knew if you had a lot of claims it would cost you BUT how is the 50 counted? Every prescription claim counts? My dog gets 4 prescriptions a month, some only 10 bucks but it might increase my plans because of the number 50??
Next is the sublimit on prescriptions. Shouldn't be surprised when I saw them add their own pharmacy option. So if you use their preferred pharmacy that's waived. Great. But 2 of my dogs prescriptions are compounded eye drops and not available on their site. Nothing I can do about that?
Has anyone ran into issues with these two new policy changes? Mostly worried about the claim one. I probably submit 4 to 5 a month of just meds. I used to put them all in one claim once a month but they kept messing up that way 🙄
Wishbone Pet Insurance - Dog rupture CCL 5 days before 6-month CCL waiting period
I have Wishbone pet insurance, and they are very slow to response for either. Everyone has been very nice, but my claim just got denied for 6 months after my dog ruptured her CCL. What is frustrating is she had the zoomies on 5/3/2025 and that is when she tore her CCL. My waiting period is 5/9/2025. Am I just out of luck and 5 days is the difference between 3k out of pocket?
Banfield - Desperately, I need help with 14 year old cat insurance
I have a senior cat who just turned 14.
I had him since 1 year, and always had Banfield, thinking that was the insurance. (To make me feel less bad, pet insurance wasn't a thing back then :( so please don't blame me too much.)
My other cat who was 14, passed away recently, and all the bills left me in burden.
So I heard about the insurance, and was trying to sign up for my other one, but I've also heard about insurance nightmare stories.
I'm now really worried that they would just deny everything, saying it was a pre-existing condition.
I would truly truly appreciate if there is a way to ensure coverage based on my current situation:
* Everything is recorded in Banfield, where I took him regularly for his routine checkup since I brought him home.
* My cat is chonky (24 lbs)
* Already had asthma when I brought him as a kitten (but it wasn't severe and got better so no treatment was given)
* Last October, the doctor said he has heart murmur 3/6 and put that in the note
* They also noted he has a tartar on his teeth (would that make any dental related disease claim denied?)
My biggest concern is the heart murmur... would they just deny everything heart related?
Any tips and advice would truly be appreciated. Thank you so so much.
Figo - My experience with Figo
I made my first claim through Figo and wanted to describe the process for those that might find it helpful.
**Overall Thoughts**
Overall, I was pleased with my Figo experience and intend to renew my policy.
Figo covered approximately what I expected it to cover based on my understanding of the policy document.
I submitted three claims in total, one for each of the invoices I received from my vet. My claims were processed and paid in less than 1 week. The process of submitting my claims was straightforward and involved uploading invoices to the PetCloud mobile app.
I was slightly surprised by the fact that out of pocket expenses reduced my deductible only up to my policy's reimbursement rate. For example, the first $100 in covered costs reduced my deductible by $90. This is different from my experience with human health insurance where 100% of out of pocket expenses count towards to the deductible, regardless of what your coinsurance rate is.
**Policy**
I pay a $477 annual premium with the Costco discount. My deductible is $1,500 with a 90% reimbursement rate and unlimited annual coverage. My dog is 3 years old and unspayed. The policy includes rehabilitation but not Vet Exam Fees, Extra Care Pack and Wellness - Plus. My policy has been active for just under 2 years.
**Illness**
My dog had bloody diarrhea, loss of appetite and lethargy on and off over the course of 2 weeks. Total treatment costs, including vet prescribed food totaled $2,540.35 of which Figo covered $317.82. The cause of her illness was never identified.
**First vet visit**
At my dog's initial vet visit, our vet did an exam ($130), prescribed my dog Metronidazole ($26) and tested my dog's stool for parasites ($86). Our vet also prescribed Trazodone ($20) to help with my dog's anxiety at subsequent vet visits. The Figo policy covered the Metronidazole and the Trazodone, but not the vet exam or the parasite test. I was slightly surprised that parasite test was not covered. The denial reason was "Costs or fees for treatments or preventative treatments for parasites or conditions related to parasites unless there is no preventive medication for the parasite..."
Total charges: $262.10
Covered by policy: $46.10
Remaining deductible: $1,500 - (.9 \* 46.1) = $1,458.51
**Second vet visit**
At my dog's second vet visit, our vet did another exam ($130), ordered blood work ($570) and recommended that my dog be hospitalized overnight for IV fluids and observation ($1,388). The vet also prescribed a 5 day course of Metronidazole ($20) and Pepcid ($20). Again, Figo did not cover the vet exam, but did cover everything else, save a $24 "medical waste" charge that was part of the hospital stay.
Total charges: $2,128
Covered by policy: $1,973.70
Remaining deductible: $0
Paid by Figo: Covered costs - Remaining deductible = (.9 \* $1,973.70) - $1,458.51 = $317.82
**Prescription Food**
The vet prescribed specialized GI food for my dog to eat after her release from the hospital ($150). I did not expect for Figo to cover this expense, as the policy document states that food is not covered. I submitted the claim anyway, on the off chance that it might be considered treatment for her illness. Figo denied the claim with the reason reason: "The policy does not provide coverage for food unless included in the Office Visit and Exam Fees Rider prescribed as the sole Treatment for an Illness"
Lemonade - Lemonade up to $160/m now. Recommended alternatives?
My dog is about to turn 10 and they want $160/m now. Should I switch, and if so where to?
ASPCA - ASPCA approved estimate, denied claim.
Our cat Miles was experiencing bleeding gums, bad breath and difficulty eating. We brought him to the vet and they thought he might have tooth reabsorption. They gave us an estimate for a dental and we submitted it to ASPCA. ASPCA approved it and we went ahead with the dental a week later.
Dental was complete and ended up not being as bad at the vet thought and he ended up with a cleaning and no extractions. We submitted to ASPCA and the claim was denied.
They are saying that it's a pre-existing condition because Miles went to the vet last June after getting into a house plant and the vet noticed gum inflammation from it. The vet gave him an anti inflammatory and notated in his October check up that his gums and teeth were in good condition-- in our minds, the inflammation from eating the plant was "cured." ASPCA will cover pre-existing conditions that have been cured for 180 days.
The vet used the word "stomatitis" in the records during the June visit and that's why ASPCA is denying us. Because stomatitis isn't considered a curable condition. Our vet tried to reason with them but they won't budge.
Our biggest disappointment is with the bait and switch-- when I called to ask why the estimate was approved and the claim was denied, despite them having his full medical records both times, they said they got "new information" in that week between the estimate and the procedure. Not sure how that could be because they had everything about him from vet for the estimate.
Not a great start to our relationship with ASPCA.
Lemonade - Help! Lemonade pet insurance
Can someone help me with Lemonade pet insurance?
My pet policy is 80% reimbursement, $250 deductible, $10,000 annual.
My dog went to the vet to get a mass checked out and got bloodwork done.
My plan doesn't cover exams or bloodwork.
Cytology was $185 and fine needle aspiration was $40.
In this case, the eligible cost that would go towards the deductible is the cytology exam and fine needle aspiration, which adds up to $225.
I was under the impression Lemonade paid out 80% AFTER the deductible is met.
But Lemonade just got back to me, and it shows that they covered 80% of the $225, which is $180.
Which means I still have to pay $70 until my deductible is met, instead of $25.
I thought the 80% was only for reimbursement after the deductible, not 80% coverage of the deductible.
Is this how all pet insurance work?
