Nationwide - PLEASE do not use nationwide pet insurance!
hey all,
I was with nationwide insurance for my 2 young cats for the past 2 years. Never needed to use them but the $50 a month was worth it for me. Yesterday I found out they discontinued the ‘whole pet plan’ policy they were signed up for in my state and did not notify me. They cancelled it end of December with no email/call/correspondence. They created a new policy similar to their original and discontinued the one my cats were on. I went in to double check the illness coverage for their policy because I was about to bring in my sick cat, and that’s how I found out they cancelled his coverage. I spoke to 3 different people and their supervisors for hours and they refused to reinstate their coverage on a different plan until the 2 week waiting period was over, and didn’t take any accountability for their failure to contact me before/during/after they cancelled his coverage.
My cat is now entering early heart failure and the testing to diagnose what type will cost over $5,000 to get him into a specialist. He’s only a 5 year old cat with no signs of a heart murmur/heart and liver issues until yesterday. As of now, he’s on various medications to try to stabilize him until he’s healthy enough for an echo exam.
I chose Nationwide because they appear to be a reputable insurance company in other regards, but I will never be enrolled with them again in any capacity.
I’ve never really written a review on any experience that I’ve had because I feel like everyone has different experiences. PLEASE do not use this company for your pet insurance. I don’t want anyone else to have to go through what my cat is facing and the likelihood he will have to be put to sleep in the coming days. It’s devastating and the fact that there may have been a different outcome if he was able to get all the testing in the world without financial issues is something I’m going to be thinking about forever, which is the reason pet insurance is so vital for any animals we own. There are so many other insurance companies that will do better and care for your pets and nationwide isn’t one of them ♥️
Fetch - Fetch Pet Insurance Prescription Sublimit
Hello, I am hoping someone can provide a bit of guidance as I’m a bit confused as to how my most recent claim was handled.
My Labrador has been on a fetch (formerly PetPlan) insurance policy since she was 12 weeks old. No issues with preexisting conditions and fetch covers a lot that some other insurances don’t when it comes to congenital issues. Recently she had to have TTA surgery to repair a torn knee ligament and we just got our reimbursement approved for the treatment
I noticed I was about 100 dollars short in my reimbursement, but received no communication that they partially approved or denied any part of the claim. I went and checked and they coded the surgical anesthetic medications under “prescription medication” and allocated all medications used during the surgery as prescriptions, which was applied toward the 1,500 sublimit I have on my plan for prescriptions
I have never seen this before and every single communication/review about fetch talks about how they covered surgeries in full and all that jazz, and it seems crazy to me that the anesthetic medications necessary for surgery would be coded the same as prescriptions and would prevent me from receiving a full reimbursement. Has anyone else experienced this with Fetch pet insurance?
I’m just concerned because it is likely she will need her other knee done and if it happens within the year then this entire surgery would have killed the entire prescription sublimit I have on my policy (that was also never communicated to me in the time I spent on the phone with the customer service agent)
MetLife - Anyone Denied Claims from MetLife Pet Insurance?
Hi everyone,
I'm on the phone with the claims department at MetLife. After having paid faithfully for my dog's insurance since the night I adopted him for two years, when I finally filed my claims, I've received SIXTEEN CENTS. Two years worth of payments for SIXTEEN CENTS. They are denying part of my claim because they said I need to provide the previous 12 months of medical records of my dog's history before November 2022. The problem? I ADOPTED HIM IN NOVEMBER 2022. I could see if they were confused about that, but they were on the phone with me during the adoption process! I have a second dog, and I have a different insurance through them, and I planned on going with them, but MetLife gave me a good rate, and the rescue was so encouraging that I went with them, against my better judgment. Now I know why- they suck.
I am looking for other people who've been asked for the same asinine requirements of producing their adopted dog's previous 12 months of SOAP notes BEFORE you adopted them and were denied for a claim. I'm looking to either send this to my state's AG or see if there's an attorney out there willing to take on a class action. Clearly, MetLife Pet insurance is a scam agency. I've asked them yet again to reimburse me, and I told them this time, if they say no, then I want all my payments returned. It's an easy decision- pay less for my claim, or pay more and give me back all my money. I also told them if they do, I'm willing to return the 16 cent paper check I made them mail me.
Thanks.
ASPCA Pet Insurance - ASPCA Pet Insurance is a scam! Beware!
After months of insurance I finally needed to go to the vet. Submitted a claim. They wont reimburse anything saying its all pre existing but it never happened before! Beware!
Spot - Looking for pet insurance
My cat is getting up there in age so now I'm trying to find a good pet insurance for her. I'm mainly looking for one that would also cover dental. I've been looking at Spot, but lots of people have said it's a scam, and from what I've heard AKC insurance doesn't cover dental.
Lemonade - Claim Denied!
I have Lemonade and they denied my claim because the covered illness was “discounted” on my invoice showing nothing due. I have a care plan through my vet that I’m paying $150 a month for. I submitted a claim for the exam and testing that my dog received which was included in my care plan. Am I wrong for expecting Lemonade to reimburse for this? Even though the invoice shows no charges, it’s only because I’ve been paying in advance with my care plan. I’ve had pet insurance before (24 Hour Pet Watch) and they reimbursed me for things that were included in my vets care plan. I see nothing in my policy that states they don’t reimburse what your care plan covers. They told me their “guidelines” say it will not be paid. I’m thinking about filing a complaint and canceling my policies with them.
Trupanion - Is there not an app for Trupanion?
Just switched from Embrace Pawprotect to Trupanion... Can't seem to find an app for it in the google play store. What kind of insurance company doesn't have a mobile app in the year 2025? 😭
Furkin Insurance - Insurance monthly premium
My dogs Furkin Insurance monthly premium just went up $18! Is this normal?!
ManyPets - Odie unresponsive after ManyPets transfer
UPDATE: they finally replied and sent me another link to update payment + the portal access link. Unsure what I did.. I guess since payment was involved, they prioritised? Anyway now I can look at my plan, submit a claim, etc. And they said the Comms would improve in the coming weeks. Staying with them bec the premiums were the most affordable with them.
I've seen posts about odie this year but writing about my situation in case anyone has also faced it.
To the people who got transferred over - have you received your welcome email? My policy renewed on the 2nd of January, and I never received a welcome email.
I had to take my cat to the vet and got a 1k bill. There's no place to submit a claim. Nobody is replying to my emails.
And on top of that, I received an email today saying my payment didn't go through with a link to update - BUT THE LINK WAS EXPIRED!! The audacity to ask me for a payment when I have literally no info and no reply from this company.
Nobody picks up the phone. And if the payment doesn't go through, the policy will lapse and that will leave my cat without insurance which is soooo frustrating!!! Has everyone else gotten their account setup emails?? Or even received a response over email??
Their voicemail message says if you email multiple times it will delay the response even more so I'm scared to write them again and again. Advice??
PetsBest - Dog turned 11, insurance went up $110/month
I’ve been with PetsBest for over 3 years. I started paying about $50 and last year it went up to $78. I thought it was due to my dog becoming a senior, so I didn’t complain. Usually I have one visit to the ER per year, so I thought it was worth it. Last year she had mayor surgery to remove some tumors, but I was waiting until the last minute to get it done as they were all benign.
Last week I got a letter from PetsBest informing me that my new monthly premium is going to be $190! I called and even the rep was shocked about the increase, but now I’ve been shopping around and PetsBest is actually the cheaper option! I don’t want to drop them, as she is old and I’m sure I will end up paying less, even with the high premium, but there has to be some sort of control over this companies! This is absurd!
