Fetch - I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with this insurance company and felt misled by their unclear policies. I strongly advise looking elsewhere for insurance needs.
Nationwide - Astronomical policy premium increase
I have had Nationwide pet insurance for my pets for close to 8 years. I now have 3 pet policies and never had 1 claim on any of them. My oldest pet now 8 years old had a policy renewal this month. My monthly plan is around $50 per month, with this years renewal my payment we up to around $90. This is an increase of $35 PER MONTH!!!! On a policy that has not had ONE claim. This is the SECOND increase in 13 months, I had an $10 increase last year upon renewal. That is almost an increase of $50 in 13 months! While I understand the need to adjust the premium, but my monthly payment has almost doubled in 13 months. I called and was told the increase in a result of the average of the issues other pets of the same age and breed have had and the ONLY way to lower the payment amount is to raise my deductible. So let me get this straight, I started my policy 8 years ago choosing the lowest deductible paying more each month so in the event we needed to use the policy it would be less out of pocket. Now the only way to lower my almost doubled monthly premium is to raise my deductible which means MORE MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET if I need to use the policy. I should have used the higher deductible amount all along!!!! I've paid nearly $4,000 over a 8 year period to keep my deductible lower and now the only way to be able to afford this policy is to raise my deductible from $250 to $1,000. So assuming I need to use this policy, I'm out $1,000 on top of the premiums I've already paid, so close to $5,000. Why have insurance!!!! Now my pet is too old to go anywhere else without paying more. Well done Nationwide Pet...WELL DONE! Kudos for figuring out how to really stick it to you long time clients!
Pets Best - Rates Doubled at Renewal
Coverage was affordable for a fairly decent plan, but once the one year policy auto renewed it literally DOUBLED in price. This is obviously a power move for them, because if you switch insurances any previous ailments are not longer covered by new insurance due to be pre-existing. I would look into another company for Pet Insurance and get data about their average annual rate increases.
MetLife - The website is a nightmare
The website is a nightmare. If you upload claims, they get lost. Customer service is abysmal. I am constantly having to call to straighten out my claims. I have two dogs, they always go to vet together, and so I have to send all pages of claim forms for each dog, that’s Ok, but they constantly screw it up. I finally spoke with a claims manager about the mess. It says it will take 5 days to review claims, it’s more like 20-25. Problem is once you are with a company you can’t change because of pre existing conditions.

I still never got answers on whether my issue was resolved!
Spot - If I could give them a ZERO
If I could give them a ZERO, I would.
My pup, like many pups have swallowed items.
At just 8 months old to the day, she had a bowl obstruction. I had taken her to the vet a few weeks earlier and they found NOTHING, but also the vet is to be blamed as they should have suggested an ultrasound. I submitted my receipts for reimbursement, and SPOT told me that it was a "preexisting" condition. IT WAS NOT, it was perforated intestines and an obstruction. I ended up having to put our 8-month old puppy down, because the emergency vet said that there was NO guarantee of saving her. Thanks SPOT for nothing!!!
MetLife - Claim denial and appeal process
My policy includes preventative care coverage and my claim for anal gland expression was denied even though it is specifically listed under preventative care. The reason for denial is not clear on the EOB so I called customer service learn that I would first need to see the Vet and have the Vet recommend the procedure. I agree with that for standard policy coverage. The preventative care coverage does not state that I first need to see the Vet. The appeal process is complicated and designed so that customers will decide it is not worth the hassle. Poor customer support and service. If I could give you a negative 5 stars for this instance, I would
Embrace - Absolutely terrible!!
Absolutely terrible!!! Signed to for wellness and major events regarding my dog's health, nothing is reimbursed! Very seriously considering cancellation!
Pets Best - Pets Best is a nightmare
Pets Best is a nightmare. It's taken over 40 days to have 1 vet visit "reviewed". The repeated requests for a full year of records for a dog just adopted from the shelter is absurd. Submitting LA County Animal Care records to be told they're "invalid". If it wasn't so time consuming and irritating, the ignorance would be hilarious.
MetLife - Room for improvement
Two ways to improve:
1. When submitting claims online, allow the claim form to be able to filled out online. This would make submitting claims less complicated. For now, you must print out the form, fill it in by hand and then scan it to attach it to the claim. This process should be simpler.
2. The customer service department should be able to talk with the claims department about claims that go awry. I had a recent frustrating experience where the claims department erroneously sent back a claim for more information. It was not needed, as it had been submitted originally. Despite the error being made by the claims department, my claim was put back in the queue and took over three weeks to resolve. Customer service, although polite, could not contact the claims department and expedite the matter. Improve communication and allow errors to be handled in a timely manner.
