Claims are processed very slow and the monthly charge is way too much
Embrace - Our Labradoodle is 7 and we have had…
Our Labradoodle is 7 and we have had Embrace insurance for 5+ consecutive years. During the 2nd half of 2024 Embrace raised our premium from $123.81 to $173.19 (40%). Our coverage is annual benefits of $10,000, a $500 deductible and 80% reimbursement rate. Were we enroll our dog today with Embrace, our premium for the same coverage would be $119.98. The way companies such as Embrace keep you hooked/locked in is through a pre-existing conditions clause......since we filed claims during the past 5+ years for giardia and anaplasmosis, these are considered pre-existing conditions should we choose to get coverage elsewhere.....so we remain captives of Embrace. Even so, a 40% rate increase is excessive in my book, especially when there is no apparent attempt by Embrace to justify it. Certainly our per's claim experience doesn't.
ManyPets - Denied routine care in spite of yearly allowance.
I purchased this insurance through Progressive for my cat and made sure to get a plan that covered teeth cleanings. It came time to bring my cat in for a teeth cleaning, and the vet found brand new dental issues (tooth re-absorption) that required extractions as they are quite painful for cats.
The bill ended up being quite expensive surprise. When I submitted it to ManyPets, they denied everything, including the cleaning that my plan explictly covers $150/year for, on the grounds that my cat had evidence of gingivitis (what cat doesn't) so therefore the brand new tooth reabsorption was a pre-existing condition.
My vet put together a very well evidenced rebuttal proving that the tooth reabsorption was a new issue, unrelated to the gingivitis, that no one had known about (again, this happened during a teeth cleaning visit). ManyPets response was to cover the $150 for the cleaning they initially denied, and nothing else.
I do not recommend this insurance and am very frustrated that Progressive recommended it to me. It's one thing to deny claims for frivolous reasons, it's another to deny routine care that do not come with any conditions on the contract. I will be changing providers as soon as my term is up.
ASPCA - Insurance is an business sheme, more than it is a service.
Been paying for this insurance for over two years and have yet to actually put it to use. The cost per year would have been enough to cover the annual expenses for all the standard shots, dewormers, and tick / flea preventatives which by the way are not covered here.
Attempted submitting a claim for this stuff. It only lists options for new injuries, new illnesses, or micro-chipping. Even if I could submit one, it wouldn't kick in until I have paid twice what I am already paying this company in a years time ($500).
And to add to it all, despite never having to use insurance fortunately, the monthly premium went up another ten dollars in 2025. "Gotta pump up those numbers, rookie!" The greed is obvious and I am sick of it...
To any animal owner reading this, I would suggest shopping around. Find out what is the best value and what will cover your pets needs. Not that you don't already do this, but more importantly - Love your animals, give them some freedom, keep your pets healthy and active, as well as a variety of food options throughout life if possible. Take care.
Nationwide - DROPS YOUR OLD DOG AFTER PAYING PREMIUMS FOR 6 YEARS
Nationwide will gladly take your money UNTIL your pet is 7 years old. Paid for the plan for 5 years, rates went up every year until I'm now paying $180.00 a month. Just got a letter of nonrenewal and called them to find another plan. Plan is not offered for my dog because after they are 7 years old ...no coverage. So Nationwide basically cherrypicks young dogs, takes your money and then when they are old enough to actually need it you get dropped. RUN AWAY FROM THIS RIP OFF COMPANY, THEY WILL DROP YOU WHEN YOU REALLY NEED IT.
Embrace - Questioning change
I just switched to Embrace after using another company and I am beginning to question my change. I submitted a claim and it was declined and when I reached out 3 times for details no one ever reached back out to me! I am starting to wish I stayed with the other company. DO BETTER EMBRACE!!
Embrace - Always a pre-existing not covered condition.
My dog was adopted when she was 2 months and is a stray dog. She has all his vaccinations and at every visit to the vet for vaccinations there is a report saying that the dog was in good health, since this is a condition for the dog to be vaccinated. She has never been sick and we have never had to take her to the vet. She started limping because of a bacterial infection that was misdiagnosed as an orthopedic problem and then referred to another clinic that made the correct diagnosis. Embrace used the first misdiagnosis to claim pre-existence in a puppy, and it took more than a month to return with the denial of the claim.
Trupanion - I tried to cancel and gave up waiting.
I tried to cancel and gave all my info to the person who answered the phone, but they had to transfer me to the cancellation department. I was on hold for 40 minutes and never got anyone. I had to hang up; I could not wait any longer. Now, I have to change my credit card number so they cannot charge me for the next month.
Trupanion - RUN from Trupanion
RUN
Trupanion takes medical claims submitted never reaches out to the veterinarian medical provider for those medical records in order to process clams correctly instead processes the claim as a new per condition, making a bottomless deductible over and over and over again in the year 2024 for the same condition submitted claim after claim, and each claim was processed as a new per condition claim using a bottomless deductible never paying out
this practice should be illegal because it makes the consumer go through the appeal process each time a claim is processed as a new per condition deductible. Their responses go through the appeal process hoping the consumer will not and they never play on a claim

Pets Best - I'm sorry I switched to Pets Best
I filed a claim for my 6yo Tibetan Terrier's ear infection which occurred within the 14 day waiting period. It wasn't covered, which I completely understand. However, it is now deemed a pre-existing condition, and any ongoing issues she may have due to this infection or any ear infection from here on out will not be covered. Even if it's in the other ear? Also, Pets Best excludes medicines, which were covered by her previous insurance., Read the fine print. And if you have a question that isn't in the FAQs, be prepared to go through a many call prompts and an extended wait time on the phone.
