Farmers Insurance - Anyone else had problems with Farmers/Foremost Insurance not paying claims?
I've been a loyal Farmers/Foremost customer for 10 years, claim free. But when I had interior drywall damage, they wouldn't cover anywhere near the cost of the repairs.
I gathered three quotes, but the Farmers Rep said they were all "unreasonable" and suggested I keep looking for cheaper options. My rep told me he basically punches numbers into a computer, and that spits out the estimate. He doesn't actually talk to contractors, just does "what the computer tells him".
Anyone else experienced something similar with Farmers or other insurance companies? If so, open to sharing about it?
my insurance company - Rear ended by uninsured driver/Diminution of Value
I was rear ended by a driver with an out of state license, but his truck is registered in this state (Texas), he seemed to be a shady individual as well to me when dealing with him.
The police came and wrote a report but it didn’t technically put him at fault even though he rear ended me. I did however get him on video admitting he was at fault. I filed the claim with his insurance, but it was a slow response from them. I went ahead and filed with mine to get the ball rolling because I needed to get it fixed. Well turns out that was a good move because come to find out he wasn’t covered by his insurance company at the time. So basically he got away with having no insurance when the police arrived because he had a paper saying he did.
My question is now that my truck is fixed and back to normal, I received a diminution in value evaluation form from my insurance company for me to fill out. Is this to provide a compensation due to my truck now losing some value to the accident? It had never been in an accident previously so what can I expect towards compensation based on the value of the truck. Its KBB value ranges from $15-$19k. It’s in excellent condition though. How would diminution work according to that? Will my insurance company send me a check or something?
Also on a side note, can I contact the police to inform them that his insurance company called me and said that he was not covered at the time? Could they pursue a ticket to him even though he has an out of state license?
Wilber Group - Hit with $25K Debt After DUI Accident While Delivering for Work. Can I Negotiate or Get It Reduced?”
Hi everyone, (long-time lurker here using a quick-made account for this post).
I’m in a difficult financial and legal situation and could really use some guidance.
On November 15, 2024, I was involved in a DUI accident while working as a delivery driver (not alcohol-related). I fully acknowledge that driving under the influence was a serious mistake. The reason I ended up in that situation was that I took drugs to cope after a traumatic work incident, where someone flashed a knife behind my back the previous week. On the night of the accident, I was working with the same person again, and I made the wrong choice in handling my stress. I deeply regret my actions.
Since then, I have complied with all legal and rehabilitation requirements—attending therapy, DUI courses, and adjusting my medications—and I’ve made a complete turnaround in my life.
During my delivery shift, I hit another car (a 2024 Toyota Highlander), but thankfully, no one was injured. My insurance initially handled the claim, but now Wilber Group has purchased the debt from the insurance company and is demanding $25,000 from me.
My Financial Situation:
• I am a student and will not have a steady income for the foreseeable future.
• I am on disability due to hearing impairment and mental health conditions.
• I currently make $17/hour, working 24 hours per week.
My Questions:
1. Can I negotiate this debt down to 10-30% of the amount owed? Since debt collectors often buy debts for less than their full value, is it realistic to settle for significantly less?
2. Can they take any of my assets or garnish my wages? Location: Minnesota, and I’ve heard there are exemption laws, but I’m unsure how they apply to my situation.
3. What is my best strategy for dealing with this debt? Would negotiating a lump sum settlement be my best option, or should I try for a payment plan?
4. Could bankruptcy help me discharge this debt? Would a DUI-related accident debt like this be wiped out under Chapter 7 bankruptcy since I have no significant assets and low income?
5. Could recent tariff increases on cars affect the amount I owe? Since the Toyota Highlander I hit was a 2024 model, and the incident happened before April 2, 2025, could the recent tariff increases on imported vehicles have inflated the amount Wilber Group is demanding? If so, how can I challenge that?
Root Insurance - Think i'm screwed, what to do (Hail Damage)
Okay so I have a new vehicle, and I decided to use Root Insurance. Usually the insurance websites automatically add comprehensive and collision when you state it's financed. So I thought it had. Anyway, it was liability only. Now last week there was a hailstorm and it did some damage to the car. Not hardcore but it js noticeable up close. What can I do? All I can do is fix it right with my own money? Will the bank go after me? I'm just so lost right now any advice would be appreciated.
AAA - Am I at fault?
I made a claim via triple a and they stated I was at fault for the following:
Tire debris was flowing through various freeway lanes. It was not safe for me to merge on to the lane to my left because it was flooded, and to my right there were other vehicles that would not have permitted me to merge in time to avoid the popped tire debris. I stayed in the lane I was an and the debris struck my vehicle, causing damage to the front bumper and fender.
They stated I am at fault because I “struck the debris and could have avoided it.” Is there anything I can quote from their comprehensive coverage to not be labeled as at fault? Or am I at fault?
Pets Best - Best insurance for 1YO chihuahua mix with a chronic limp?
Hi all,
I have been losing my mind trying to figure out which coverage would be best for my pup. He is a 1YO chihuahua/poodle mix who was rescued off the side of the road at 3 months with a broken hip. He has had FHO surgery which did seem to help reduce his pain and allow him to put more weight on the limb (left hindleg). He loves running and jumping around and generally acts like a happy puppy, but will likely always walk with a limp. I'm aware he may develop issues as he gets older from compensating.
We currently have Pets Best, which we have not had a good experience with. We have sent them the same documents three times and every time they said they did not receive it, even when I'm actively looking at the email to their claims department while on the phone with them. Then it takes a full two months for them to review the documents, only for at the end of two months for them to close my claim because they did not receive my documents.... and thus the cycle continues.......
Which insurance would you recommend? Should I just suck it up and accept that I'm likely going to have to pay in full for any orthopedic issues? I'm happy paying on the higher end ($70-$100 a month) for more full coverage that would include exam visits, medications, etc, but I'm having a hard time figuring out which insurance would work best for my pet. Any advice y'all have to give would be greatly appreciated and save me hours of going down this rabbit hole!!!
Travelers - Recourse for not at fault accident?
So I recently got in my second accident in 3 years. The first one was at fault in September 2022. This one was not at fault last month. I had just started a new policy with a new company, Traveler’s and they decided to drop me after the claim was closed. However it became a word vs word accident that was supposed to go to subrogation but since I was dropped it’s not anymore. So I had to get a new policy with Progressive which on their report they listed the accident as at fault. Is there anyway to try to change this? I know I wasn’t at fault and I think the photos of the accident help prove this.
Edit: I’m in Georgia
State Farm - Looking for new carrier
I have State Farm and pay about $750 monthly for my several cars and teenager.
Every carrier I quoted with (the major ones that everyone knows)
All wanted $1,100 or more per month for exact same coverage.
These people are crazy!!!
The $750 I think is already too high. 3 cars, 1 truck, 2 adults and a teen. No accidents, tickets, or claims for anyone, ever.
Going to try a local broker tomorrow. Maybe they can help. Are other people seeing the same crazy differences when getting a quote? Any good experiences using a broker and anything I should watch out for? Never used an independent broker.
My insurance company - Dirt Bike accident
My son was hanging out with his girlfriend’s family when her dad pulled out a couple of dirt bikes and offered to let them drive around the block on them. No helmets, no licenses, bikes aren’t registered or even road worthy.
My son is 15 with a learners permit. It was 8pm, dark, and the bikes had no headlamps. Long story short, my son ended up running into a car, causing $7K in damages and losing part of a toe in the process.
My insurance company will not cover this because it was outside the scope of the coverage provided for the learners permit. The driver is threatening a lawsuit.
I’m angry at the girlfriend’s father. I would have never allowed him to get on that bike if I had known about it. I knew the consequences if something like this happened. In addition, the father apparently verbally told the driver he would cover the damages but he hasn’t returned my call.
Can the driver sue me? Shouldn’t she just file with her insurance company for uninsured/under insured motorist coverage?
Progressive - Progressive added someone i don't know
Hello I 31f bought my car 2 years ago and got progressive insurance. I signed up for paperless and honestly I don't go on my policy and look. My insurance increased even though i never changed anything. I look and see they added somebody I don't even know who lives where I used to live. I asked why they did that and I was told my info was sold to a 3rd party and through that information they added her. I never got a notice or gave my permission. Has anybody else gone through that?
