Is it even legal for Healthy Paws pet insurance to increase premiums at almost 200% in CA? This is outrageously high!! Anyone experiencing the same?

Her insurance - Can I fix my car first and then sue the other driver in small claims if they’re dodging their insurance?
About a week ago, I was stopped in traffic when a woman rear-ended me. I won’t go into all the details, but she was a bit evasive at the scene. She did give me her insurance information, though. I only have liability coverage through my own policy, so I filed a third-party claim with hers.
I called her insurance today, and they told me she hasn’t responded to their attempts to get her statement. The evidence is pretty clear - she had a license plate cover on the front of her car, and the text from it literally left an imprint, like a stamp, dead center on the rear bumper of my car.
I really need my car, but my rear bumper is sagging, and I don’t think it’s safe to keep driving it like this. Based on her behavior at the scene and the fact that she’s now ghosting her insurance, I have a strong feeling she’s just going to keep evading responsibility.
Given this, I’m wondering: is it okay if I pay out of pocket to fix my car now and then sue her in California small claims court to recover the cost? If so, what kind of evidence should I gather to make my case? For example, should I ask the auto body shop for a written statement detailing the damage and cost to repair?
Thanks in advance.
Pennie - Clarification about guidance from Pennie about complex health insurance case involving legal immigration.. Help!
I attempted to enroll my wife in a Pennie health insurance plan with a July 1 start date, even though she won’t physically arrive in the U.S. until July 8. She’s entering as a lawful permanent resident, and as I understand it, that status only becomes official when she enters the country and gets the I-551 stamp or green card. When I called Pennie, I expected them to tell me to wait until she arrived. Instead, multiple reps told me I could start her coverage as early as June 1. They said as long as I uploaded her green card by the September 18 deadline, everything would be fine.
At the time, I followed their advice. But now that I’ve gone through the actual policy language from Pennie, I’m second-guessing the whole thing. From what I can tell, coverage can’t legally begin until someone is lawfully present. That would make July 1 an ineligible start date since she won’t even be in the country until July 8. It also looks like coverage normally starts the *first of the month after enrollment,* which makes me think August 1 is actually the soonest possible date.
So now I’m stuck wondering what happens if I submit her green card later and it clearly shows that she didn’t become eligible until after the start date I selected. Will the system flag it? Will coverage be denied or quietly canceled? Do I need to withdraw and reapply once she arrives?
I’m looking for input from anyone who really understands how Pennie processes these kinds of cases—ideally someone with inside knowledge, or a rep who has seen how this plays out in practice. Any analysis or clarification would help a lot.
Fetch - Pet Insurance: Worth it With Rate Hikes?
I got pet insurance on each of my dogs when I got them. The second dog got a better, more budget-friendly policy thanks to the benefit of time and experience on my part. The first dog, however, is the medical problem one. The past few years we have barely hit our $500 deductible, but his plan was renewed today for 2025, and we will be hitting the deductible tomorrow due to a scheduled appointment. A few months back I got a rate increase notification from Fetch (0/10 do not recommend btw). That was fine, but what I didn't realize is that his $600/yr insurance jumped to **$1,000/year**, which was a SUPER fun surprise to my bank account this morning, especially when I budgeted six hundred into a very tight and aggressively paying down debt budget.
My first reaction was eff this, cancel it. My second reaction was remembering this dog is set for roughly $700 in sedated arthritis x-rays and a biopsy of a potentially cancerous growth TOMORROW. We can't get any coverage in time if we switched today, can't really reschedule the appointment, it needs to be done soon, and his bad hips and allergies would already be considered pre-existing conditions.
I don't have an emergency fund built up for the dogs, I wasn't making enough money last year, and ate down my savings. This dog is already going on prescription food, daily joint supplements, and needs to be taken swimming for his unofficial physical therapy (mutts aren't always healthier FYI). Talk me off the ledge here, this $1,000 is still worth it right? Do we eat the cost for this year and reevaluate next year depending on how this one goes? Spot Pet Insurance - Spot Pet Insurance. - deceptive!
We purchased Spot Pet Insurance for our newly adopted rescue Golden and chose “Accident” insurance only . They happily took our application and all monthly payments since July 2024. Over the weekend, he suddenly became lame on his back right leg and was very reluctant to walk or stand up. We know it occurred between his am walk and 3 pm. After taking him to Blue Pearl and getting imaging done as well as pain meds, we submitted our invoice for reimbursement. DENIED. Reason why? We didn’t have the EXACT time of the injury. I submitted an appeal, but if it’s denied we are cancelling. We would be better off putting $100 bucks a month away in his own health account. What a bait and switch!
auto insurance company - At Fault vs No Fault
I had to file a claim with my automobile insurance company due to 4k worth of damage to my vehicle when I hit a MASSIVE pothole. The pothole looked more like a huge chunk of cement that got wedged out of the lane, possibly by a snowplow. It was the tail end of a decent snowstorm and this hole was unavoidable. Why? I was surrounded by vehicles and to swerve either way or stop short would have resulted in something far worse. I attempted to straddle the hole but it was too wide. After having my interview with my claims examiner she told me she felt strongly that she could get her boss to sign off on my claim as a no fault. she called bck and told me it wa an at fault and wouldn't budge. She read me the typical language that I should be aware of my surroundings and more cognizant as to the road conditions before me. The conversation went nowhere. They paid the claim at least.
My question: how could they call it at fault given the circumstances? They made this decision without ever even seeing a picture of the pothole, which proves its width? I am now trying to get the item removed via lexis/nexis. How much might this save me if it were remove?
Furkin Insurance - Insurance monthly premium
My dogs Furkin Insurance monthly premium just went up $18! Is this normal?!
Progressive - Progressive Snapshot
Hello,
I'm new to having car insurance, when I enrolled progressive the asked me to enroll in snapshot to get "an special discount" after signing up and realizing the app had to run always on the background I deactivated it. The thing is I've been getting emails from them saying reactivate it to keep your discount. Is it really worth it to have it activated? I've seen some people saying their rate actually went up by having it on.
State Farm - Should State Farm replace all tires?
I got hit by a motor cycle and they were at fault. It destroy one of my wheels and tires.
State Farm will replace the one tire. I want all 4 tires replaced bc it’s 4 wheel drive grand Cherokee and the owners manual states to keep all tires the same circumference. Basically don’t put one brand new tire with 3 used tires bc it can possibly damage the drive train.
I’m pushing back bc I want them all done. What your take?
Geico - Geico premium jumped after switching to monthly payments – anyone else?
Has anyone had their Geico premium suddenly jump after switching from pay in full to monthly payments? I changed the billing method thinking it would just add a small fee but then got a new declaration with a much higher rate of 25% increase. Support says it was unrelated and just part of a regular rate adjustment but the timing feels off. I didn’t change anything else in my policy and my neighbors didn’t see any increase. Curious if others experienced this or if it’s worth escalating.
