Lemonade Insurance - Lemonade Insurance
Hi All,
I’m here to both give a review and also ask a question. I’ve had lemonade insurance (wellness + accidental coverage) for about a year & 5 months now. At first, I really enjoyed it and didn’t have any issues with them, now I wouldn’t recommend if you have a pet that is known to get into incidents.
I adopted my dog from a previous family who conveniently excluded his PICA issue. He is a 3 year old cavapoo who is notorious for taking anything he can get his hands on (socks, underwear, hygienic products, etc) and swallowing it. He’s had 2 surgeries (1 in March of 2024, and another in June of 2024). His first surgery was pre-policy and he was not insured with Lemonade. His second one I did receive reimbursement. We recently just went through another scare now in July 2025 (we have a behavior consult soon and take serious precautions, he is just VERY VERY sneaky) but thankfully, he was only hospitalized with fluids and passed the clothing in his stool, NO surgery was performed.
Now, Lemonade is denying my claim to cover the costs of hospitalization due to “Foreign material ingestion being determined to be a Recurring Condition, which is not covered under this policy.” I reread my policy, and this is the exact language on it:
“Conditions arising from a repetitive and specific activity that leads to decontamination (i.e., the induction of vomiting, stomach pumping, or treatment with charcoal), medical, or surgical treatment of your pet, if the same or a similar activity occurred two times within 18 months prior to the treatment date.”
I’d like to add the claims specialist also got his medical records incorrect in her summary and argued that the decision was also based on the surgery that happened in March BEFORE my coverage took place. I got her on the phone and corrected her inaccuracies, but she is saying based on the recurrent conditions definition, those 2 incidents (March 2024 and June 2024) fall under the “18 months prior to treatment date.”
From my understanding and the actual explicit language of the policy, how can the March 2024 surgery be considered if it predates coverage and there’s no legal language stating that pre-policy incidents are included?? Am I crazy or should I escalate this with DFS??, I am in NYC.
Any lawyers’ thoughts welcomed!!
Healthy Paws - I have Healthy Paws for my pup and now I’m worried after seeing all these posts.
My girl will be 8 in October. Premium went up last month but nothing too crazy yet. She has a very slight heart murmur that’s not affecting her (yet) and hip dysplasia, so I’m very concerned that if I switch those won’t be covered since they’re pre existing. But it sounds like Healthy Paws will be too expensive in a couple years anyway. Does anyone know of any insurance that does cover pre existing conditions?? (That’s probably a stupid question.) Should I switch now before something else comes up?? If so, what other insurances are good?
Pets Best - Pets Best - Incidental Finding during Waiting Period
Hi everyone!
We went with Pets Best for our kittens’ insurance, which starts for illness coverage on 8/21/25. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork was done last week in preparation for one of our kittens’ neuter scheduled on the 18th. The results came back a bit all over the place, which the vet wasn’t concerned by as he said it could be due to him being so young. However, the vet mentioned his T4 is elevated, which could suggest juvenile hyperthyroidism. We’ll need to retest in six months to see if it normalizes.
My question is: since this was found before the waiting period for illness coverage ended, and there are no symptoms, no official diagnosis, and no specific treatment or medical advice given yet, do you think Pets Best will consider this a pre-existing condition? A bit stressed that if it does come back as high in 6 months, something that seems like it may be a very expensive lifelong condition is going to be automatically excluded due to an incidental finding 😅
Lemonade - Any advice on how to deal with a probable rejection that will likely result from inaccurate vet notes?
I've had pet insurance with Lemonade going on five years for my cat. I just had to submit a claim for her, but I'm super worried I'm going to get a rejection because the nurse took inaccurate notes. When we were discussing my cat's history, I said that her chronic gastrointestinal issues started after her first attack of pancreatitis 'shortly after she was adopted.' The nurse instead noted that her chronic gastrointestinal issues started 'right after adoption.'
I'm super worried that this will lead to my claim being rejected and my former claims being marked as fraud. Her issues didn't start until about 3-4 months after I got her vet insurance, and that was after the illness waiting period had passed. They covered her pancreatitis when it occurred in March 2021, and I adopted her in November 2020. Does anyone have any advice on how to prepare for the rejection which I assume is coming? Is the only thing I can do is ask the company to review her old vet records and see how they don't line up with what the nurse typed before that moment? Any advice is welcome!

Healthy Paws - PSA: use Chat GPT to identify which insurance plan will save you the most money (if any)
like many others, I was just hit with a huge increase - more than double - for Healthy Paws. we do have pretty significant monthly spend (thank youuu environmental allergies), so I wasn't likely to cancel completely, but I decided to run all the options for 90%, 80%, and 70% coverage through chat gpt, including my set monthly vet expenses. it gave me a detailed explanation for why insurance is still a good idea for me, and which option specifically would save me the most money. for my scenario, it ended up being 80% at $1000 deductible.
just a suggestion in case youre not sure what your next step should be.
Fetch - Should I go off Pet Insurance?
Our dog insurance is $450 a month for a HCOL area in California. We use Fetch. It covers two small dogs, a 13 year old and a 6 year old. We have had pet insurance for 5 years, and not once have we needed to use it. Instead, it's just paying an exorbitant amount for a potential issue that has never appeared. It has become completely unaffordable for our family.
As a result, we are strongly considering going off pet-insurance for the foreseeable future. My family members and I have different ideas of how to handle future medical issues, however. I would do anything for our dogs and believe prices are reasonable to save my dogs' life. But my parents (note: I am a college student) believe it's too great an expense, and if a major condition arises that costs over 10k, the best option would be to put the dog down.
Do you know of any cheaper options? Or other ways we can ensure medical treatment?

Fetch Insurance - Fetch pet insurance
Hey guys, im soon to be getting a golden retriever puppy and i need some help with pet insurance. Ive narrowed it down to fetch insurance because theyre the most affordable without the worst reviews.
I have seen some chatter about them denying claims but since im registering my pup at less than 8 weeks i figure that they cant deny due too some bs like "previous conditions". Am i naive for thinking that?
I was quoted $120 a month for an annual payout of $15000, annual deductable of $300, and reimbursement rate of 90%. Let me know if you think that i should adjust these values as i picked the highest cost options across the board. Still $40 dollars cheaper than trupanion lol.
I am also considering the wellness plans but im not too sure of the value. Could you guys weigh in on if i'll actually need all of these things done every year and if i'll save money with it?
The annual "savings" are $735 for all that stuff listed but the annual cost of the plan is $563.52, so i'll really only be saving like $170 bucks for the most expensive plan if i understand correctly. There seems to be alot of bloat but ive never had a dog before so who knows.
I live in Canada if that matters, thanks guys.
