State Farm - State Farm will only reimburse rental cost
I was rear ended by a State Farm customer and they have accepted responsibility. I have been extremely nice until now but I am done. I asked about a rental car and told them it didn't have to be a big F150 like I drive and I could get by with something small because I work from home and don't go out much. They said great, go rent something and then file for reimbursement when I get my truck back. Since when am I responsible for renting the car and paying for it up front? They won't give me anything in writing that says they'll reimburse me for a specific daily amount or number of days. The letter says "reasonable cost" which is just way to vague. What's reasonable to me might not be reasonable to them. And I'm not, but what if I wasn't able to rent a car myself because I don't have a credit card or checking account.
Side question - if I say I need a truck do they have to cover the cost of renting a truck?
Nationwide - Best insurance for only accidents, etc?
I have a 5 year old maltese with no pre existing conditions and currently use Nationwide. My dog had to have a simple surgery to have something removed on her eyelid and Nationwide only paid out ~10% of the claim. I am looking to switch carriers in exchange for better coverage.
If I only wanted to insure against accidents, unexpected events, and not routine care like vet visits and bloodwork, what pet insurance company offers the best value? I am a bit lost and the marketplace for pet insurance seems to be large and growing. The goal is to have a lot of coverage for, say, a $4,500 surgery as the result of something unexpected.

GEICO - Could separate auto policy for 17F reduce premium?
I currently have an auto policy with only my teenage daughter (17F) after removing my STBX from the policy, but I feel like the premium for my car is higher than it should be and I'm wondering if there are any ways to reduce the premium. I am a 40M with a very clean driving record, my daughter had a claim last October where she hit a fire hydrant and the repair was \~$10k or so (no meaningful property damage to the hydrant). I drive a 2021 Tesla Model 3 and she drives a 2017 Audi A4 that her grandmother gave her. Total monthly premium with GEICO is $548 for my car and $366 for her car. I believe the average Model 3 insurance rate in Colorado should be closer to $300/month and I'm just trying to think of ways to lower my premium. Is it possible to separate policies and save money if I make it so that she can't drive my car and doesn't need to be insured for that? Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated!
Meemic - Car deemed total loss but still driveable
Hello
I hit a deer a couple of weeks ago with our 2015 Subaru Outback. The damage is simply cosmetic, but our insurer (Meemic) deemed it a total loss.
The car probably has another 100k miles of life left and the absolute LAST THING ON EARTH we want to do is deal with buying a car again. We haven't built up the reserves to pay cash, and I just about refuse to pay interest on such a miserable asset through a car loan.
Can someone help explain to me the insurance issues moving forward as we *will* continue to drive this vehicle? What to prepare for?
Pumpkin Insurance - Breed Selection Pet Insurance
So, how do you go about selecting a breed when buying pet insurance when you have a mutt? I did a DNA test on my dog and she's like 2/3 Cattle Dog and Chihuahua, and then 1/3 3 other breeds.
I bought Pumpkin Insurance and selected Mixed Breed 11-25 pounds (she's 22 pounds and shouldn't get any bigger). Here's the kick in the pants- I asked what to do if she gets more than 25 pounds. They said, well, they won't accept Mixed Breed and they base breed on vet records. Why...why do they even have Mixed Breed as an option, then??
It's going to cost me an extra $136 a year to change her to a Cattle Dog Mix. It frustrates me because my dog weighs 10-27 pounds less than the average ACD.
I can still cancel Pumpkin, and I'm tempted. But will it be any better with any other company? I assume they all operate the same way.
insurance - Insurance scam or what?
Hey all, I'm looking for advice on an issue that's been bugging me. I went to the orthodontist office regarding wisdom teeth extraction (in network). They already charged me a $200 consultation fee (This, I know isn't covered by my insurance). They told me my insurance isn't covered and that I can pay upfront and they can send a claim to my insurance and if it's covered they'll reimburse me. So I paid upfront, did my surgery and healed. 12 days later, I called my insurance for a follow up and I found out that there was no claim filed. And in fact my insurance DOES cover the extraction and bone graft.
Im only supposed to pay 20% while insurance covers 80%. So we called the orthodontist office and told them they need to file a claim because they're in network. The front clerk basically said she'd relay the message to the billing team. Few days later, no claim was made yet. Best believe I called every single day until the matter was fixed.
So finally I see a claim that they've made after 2 weeks of constant back and forth. Take in mind, I paid $5,356 out of pocket. My charges were $5,000 for TWO bone graft. $268 for the extractions and $88 for the anesthesia l'm assuming because it says "Ir". They filed a claim for $5,000, I immediately called my insurance to find out what they filed for. Apparently they filed for a completely different treatment than what l've done. And guess what?
Whatever they filed for isn't even covered by my insurance. I definitely feel like this office is trying to rob me and get away their fraudulent behaviors. I spoke with the oral surgery department from my insurance and he called them today, confirmed my treatment with them and told them they need to submit a new claim for the correct treatment. Insurance told me to give it a week, if nothing is done, call them back and file a formal complaint. Will this do anything? I'm anxious and I just want my money back. I learned my lesson 100% and will NEVER pay upfront for something that should be covered by my insurance.
Pets Best - Denied claim due to "pre-existing condition" even though diagnosis changed.
About two months ago, I took in a stray cat. On his second vet visit, I brought him in because I suspected conjunctivitis-his eye looked irritated. The vet also mentioned the possibility of entropion but said I’d need an eye specialist to know for sure.
I followed up with a veterinary ophthalmologist, and they diagnosed him with eyelid agenesis, not entropion. It required a $4,000 surgery, which I went through with to give him a better quality of life.
Unfortunately, Pets Best denied my claim saying The eye issue was mentioned at an earlier appointment, so they’re calling it a pre-existing condition, even though the actual diagnosis changed significantly.
Has anyone had any success appealing a claim like this? Is there a way to argue that it’s a completely different condition? Or does the fact that “something was wrong with his eye” early on automatically void any coverage?
your insurance company - Under insured driver at fault hit me
Hi everyone- a lady hit me with her car and 2 others. There is a limits issue and the insurance adjuster said i MUST go through my insurance to fix the car. I don't want too - I would rather just get what I can and fix the rest out of pocket. The insurance adjuster said there's nothing I can do until hear from your insurance company. Is this true? They will 1. Not give me any money at all. 2. I HAVE to go through my insurance.
My car is under my parents insurance and I don't want to touch their stuff. I don't care if I'm not at fault. This was only temporary until I got my own insurance.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - Help! What are my options?
Hi all, thanks in advance for reading this. My situation is this: I’ve started a new job that had 3 options for health insurance. All were blue cross blue shield. 1 option was no hsa but in and out of network coverage. 2 options had hsa’s but one had in and out of network coverage and the other didn’t. I figured I’d get the was with a hsa and no out of network coverage. BCBS is very common where I live and figured no issues.
Well, my son had to have surgery but before hand, we gave our new insurance to all the doctors and they said they accepted it with no problems. After the surgery, we received a $16,000 bill with a statement saying all procedures are not covered because we didn’t use in network doctors. So I make some calls and come to find out the nearest doctor or hospital that is in network is 2 hours away! Nothing around me is in network!? BCBS told me I should have chosen the insurance plan with hsa and out of network coverage.
I have a 18 month old and a wife. I can’t wait till open enrollment to change health plans… what do I do?
Voya - Be careful if you use Voya - their new Edelman thing almost did something bad!
Just wanting to throw this out there - if you are enrolled in a Voya retirement plan, they rolled out this new "AI advisor" service to accounts. It allows you to have a Empower-like interface to where it can calculate your retirement income based on savings from various sources including Social Security. That part of it is pretty nice, no complaints there. Though I am a bit concerned about the visibility of other account data to my employer, though I'm sure there's privacy practices in place against that.
But when I was clicking around and not intentionally doing anything, there was a orange notice icon by a bell at the top. I clicked that and it had a dialog stating "Updates Needed for Plan Accuracy" - and that's where it's very alarming.
I'm under age 30. I should NOT be in bonds. I DO NOT want to be in bonds. Nor do I want to be invested international. For some reason, this AI advisor tool wanted me to re-balance to be 35% in bonds, and 30% international, with 5% of my contributions going to fees for the re-balancing.
So be careful with Voya.
