Homesite Insurance - Homesite Insurance
Homesite Insurance
I bought my condo five years ago and have Homesite Insurance (according to my recent research, this is not good…).
I just filed a claim with them about what my plumber suspects is a faulty toilet wax ring which has caused water damage in the condo unit below mine. Chances are my bathroom will be out of commission for a bit. My question is this: has any one had at least a neutral experience with Homesite? Any tips on how to make sure they do what they’re supposed to? I’m doing my part by brushing up on my insurance policy. Any advice on how to avoid delays is greatly appreciated! I guess I’m just looking for a little hope, lol. Thank you!
USAA - Price vs Service
Based on the age old adage "price is what you pay value is what you get" what has been the best price vs service experience with auto insurance providers? I'm not looking for the cheapest insurer, however I am looking for the best user experience when you need to actually use your insurer's services.
Context: I have been a loyal USAA customer for the past 15 years, and recently had a not so great experience when finally having to use their services. Today I submitted an online Roadside Assistance claim, never received follow-up communications, and when called I had automated voice response systems hang up. I have been paying top dollar every month justifying the expense by thinking when I need them I'll get unmatched"white glove service." Yet, today the service was meh. I always told myself I was paying for the best of the best, but maybe it's time to reevaluate
my insurance company - Being sued and not sure what will happen next
Location: Houston, Texas
On July 15th 2024, I was involved in an accident with a driver.
It was a two-way street and I was at the middle crossing section ready to yield to the street I need to go. I noticed a driver coming out from the plaza and looked like they are waiting to cross to the street where I was coming from. Before yielding, I made sure no incoming cars and safe to go; attempted the yield. As I turned, the car from the plaza crossed the street and a collision happened where my front hit their side. Police was called but no report was made as they said it was minor. The other driver insisted the police to give me a ticket but they didn’t and sent us home after we exchanged insurance.
After that, I did all my obligations with my insurance company and they denied claims from the other driver as they said it was not my fault and I had the right to yield. Fast forward to now, I received a paper said I’m being sued for personal injury but in remember the police asked the driver questions to determine if the driver need medical attention and the driver said no.
I contacted my old insurance right away to inform them about the sue paper. I don’t know what to do from here.
Geico - Auto insurance Geico
Hi everyone,
I’m 24 years old and have been under my moms auto insurance (geico) since I was 19 years old. My bill initially used to be $175 however after my mom got into a car accident it went up to $230. Unfortunately I had an incident in October 2024 where I fit a pedestrian (he’s okay) and now I have to pay $450 monthly. Is there anything I can do to lower it ? I don’t know 100% that the insurance went up because of the incident that I had but I’m assuming it’s because of that. I tried getting quotes at other insurance companies solo however they’re quoting be about $400 monthly for insurance under my name alone. Can someone please give me advice
SBMA - Does Minimal Essential Coverage not cover bloodwork?
Hi!
I took the SBMA MEC for just about a few months in late 2024 with a new job I started.
I went to the doctors on November 12th and also received bloodwork but later I received a bill for $2000 for the bloodwork and $1265 for the Physician Office Visit.
I am wondering if Minimal Essential Coverage doesn’t cover basic bloodwork?
Last I was told, Labcorp was waiting to hear back from SBMA for covering the services but I guess the insurance never got back to them and I’m stuck with this bill :/ I will be contacting SBMA again and also Labcorp to see what I can do.
Progressive - Work Truck on freeway had a rock from it’s trailer hit my windshield (Oregon)
Was driving on the freeway and a ~2 inch rock came out of their un-tarped trailer and hit my windshield at about 65 mph. They did not have a rear license plate visible. Front registration plate was orange and I believe it to be an Oregon apportioned truck plate. I was not able to get a clear picture of their plate.
I spoke to our state police and they gave me a case number for insurance purposes. Went to file a claim with Progressive and it turns out my deductible ($500) is more than replacing the windshield ($388) so they just recommend I pay for it without insurance.
Shouldn’t the other truck’s insurance be paying for this?? I don’t know what to do other than pay for the replacement out of pocket and hope to make contact with the other party’s insurance after the fact.
He wouldn’t stop as I tried to get his attention but I was able to take some pictures… on the side of the rear trailer is a logo for “The Shaw Group” and some sort of identifying number (T1210xx… censored for this post).
Bristol West - filed a claim with bristol west, not sure if proving innocence will be difficult?
yesterday morning i got into a fender bender. i was waiting at a red light on a 3 lane road. left lane is a left turn/u-turn lane. middle lane (the one i’m in) is a straight only lane. right lane is a right turn only lane. the light turns green (i’m first in line at this light), and i slowly start accelerating (i have become a very defensive driver because the city i live is filled with actual idiot drivers, so i never take off at an intersection for fear of someone running the red and t-boning me) to cross the intersection. all of a sudden, a car is in front of me and hits the front right of my car with the front left/side of their car. she was in the right lane and made a u turn from there (or was trying to). i feel like it’s pretty straight forward that moving to the left in capacity from a right turn only lane puts her at fault, but i don’t know how this all works.
i recently turned 24 so my insurance is still a bit high, and im waiting until 25 to get comprehensive collision when it’s more affordable for me. so, i’ve had to file through their claims, bristol west. i didn’t call the police for this accident; i was rear ended really horribly two years ago in this same town and it took 2+ hours for a cop to arrive. i have a large event happening at work this week and i legitimately didn’t have the time to spare to wait for an officer to show up. neither of us were hurt, and the damage isn’t too horrible (from what i can tell) so i couldn’t risk missing my morning at work. i know this isn’t great as a police report would help with the story, but i can’t change the past.
does anyone have any experience with this? the girl who hit me was very apologetic to my face, but im worried that her story/her insurance (known for high-risk drivers) will try to swindle me and i don’t have my own collision insurance. does this seem straight forward enough or am i in for a headache? thank you for your help, advice, and guidance.
edit: would it be worth it to go on my cities FB page and ask if there were any witnesses? it’s a pretty common intersection and my city is relatively small. also, should i contact the police department to see if there is intersection footage? i just want to be as prepared as possible since i don’t have any dashcam footage. thanks
Trupanion - Trupanion Pre-existing COLDS??
I have not enrolled in Trupanion but I am interested in them because of their direct pay options.. however I was chatting with an agent and I asked about prior history of colds or ear infections and she said that would be a pre-existing condition.
She said it also depends on the record review. I asked for a contact to review my records and she said that can only be done after enrolling. I asked for a compliance department contact, and she said that isn't available for members.
Can someone give me any insight to any of these statements? I'm getting different responses when I speak with different agents.
United Health Care - High Deductible Plan but I’ve now run into significant medical issues
I have United Health Care’s high deductible plan, which I chose vs the lower deductible when I started my job 3 months ago for the HSA and because I have no medical conditions and rarely see a doctor. I’ve developed neurological issues the last month that have required a doctor visit, MRI, and now a follow up and likely more testing with a specialist. The doctor visit was $177 after a discount and MRI was $621 after discount. Does insurance even with that plan really not pay anything more? My old plan through my old job was high deductible with HSA, but bills were still only $70.
At the rate I’m going, my old and new HSAs will be drained well before I hit my deductible, so I won’t have money to pay the bills. I guess the short answer is the doctor offices won’t get paid until I have the money, but is there anything more I can do? I can’t imagine how expensive seeing a neurologist will be plus whatever tests they want even if in Network.
State Farm - Is My Insurance Being Fair To Me?
I live in the Central/Northern Arkansas area with State Farm as my insurance provider and I am 20(M)
I own two vehicles:
2009 Chevy HHR LT Panel(2.2L Ecotec)
1997 GMC Sierra SLE(5.7L Vortec w/ 4L60E)
Both of my vehicles are covered under liability. I was recently rear ended on the interstate in my truck, it honestly held up pretty good, but still a decent bit of damage. An appraiser came out and said it was about $3,700 worth of damages. They then have to run a report on my truck to find the total value. From what I understand, they find a vehicle in my relative area (the two they found are in Kansas and Tennessee) and take the retail, or selling price, and use a formula to calculate the Actual Cash Value(ACV). They then look at the features on those vehicles, compare and contrast them to mine, thus raising or lowering the value of my truck with each feature, to determine how much my truck is worth. Finally got a call back, they say it’s totaled and their number is $2,959, meaning they would be buying it from me and taking it. And there’s potential that I cannot buy it back depending on whether they deem it unsafe to drive. I feel like I’m being cheated. My truck is still running and driving perfectly fine, I can tell there’s a little bit of frame damage at the rear under the bed(the truck hit my receiver and it slightly bent the frame inward). It’s very difficult to find a vehicle that not only is as reliable as my truck is, but also has the capabilities mine does. Not to mention the fact that my Great Grandfather gave me the truck, and he was the original owner. And currently my truck is also my only form of transportation because my dad and I are in the process of rebuilding the motor in my car. If I try to find a truck like mine anywhere, it’s easily double what they’re trying to pay me. Some people want $2,500 for a truck in the condition mine is in with no motor or transmission, or serious problems with one or the other.
Note: Accident was a hit and run, driver at fault was not found. I was rear ended and pushed slightly into another truck.
Also, for reference, I will list the prior and current conditions of my truck:
Prior:
261,000 miles
Dash slightly cracked
Grille slightly cracked(have a new one just haven’t replaced it)
Clear coat peeling and sun damaged in some areas
Very minor dings/scratches
Cloth seats, carpet, and headliner had minor holes, tears, and/or stains
Current:
262,000(what the appraiser recorded)
Dash cracked slightly more
Rear bumper pushed into bed on passenger side
Bed pushing into cab denting both pillars
Bed now unaligned from cab slightly
Driver seat leaning to the right slightly, will not recline forward or back
Tailgate slightly scuffed and dented
Receiver almost broke in half and bent the frame slightly
Front bumper pushed backward, slightly crushing the filler panel in between the bumper and grille
Very slight crease on the back passenger fender
I would be perfectly fine with the $2,900 if I could just keep my truck without having to pay extra. The salvage retention fee is $811 and some change, and my deductible is $250. And still no guarantee I could get it back until I tell them to run the report. They said I could send in other comparable trucks, but it has to be “a link I can click on to see exactly what you’re seeing and include the vin number”. Doing so could potentially raise the value of my truck, but only ever so slightly from what I’ve been told, and if I were to do that, it would have to be before they tell me whether or not I’d be able to keep my truck.
If y’all need more information feel free to ask, I just want some help and guidance.
Another note: at the end of January the dryer in my old apartment caught fire and everything was smoke damaged. My gf and I at the time got a new apartment and then we broke up mid February, and the wreck happened at the beginning of March. I don’t know how I am holding it together.
